DO YOU EVER WISH SOMEONE WOULD MAGICALLY....

  • Organize your MAGAZINES or BOOKS - alphabetize by author or title or categorize by fiction/non-fiction.
TIP 1: Paper is a dust collector and creates a musty odor when there's a large accumulation. If you have allergies, consider storing your books on shelves in your garage, walk-in closet, or in an enclosed unit in your home or office.
TIP 2: Cancel magazine subscriptions that you don't read within 1 week of receiving. No accumulation occurs when you check-out books from your free local library.

  • Organize your COMPUTER files & folders - One-on-one instruction for 'just the basics' is available for the Internet, Email, Word, Excel and Powerpoint for adults and children.
TIP: Perform a backup at least once a week if you make changes to your files on a daily or weekly basis. Add a reminder to your computer's calender to remind you via email or write it in your daytimer.

  • Organize your CLOSETS (linen, clothes, coat, laundry room, dressers) - It's time to organize your spring & summer wardrobe!
TIP 1: A great and inexpensive way to SEE at-a-glance where your blouses end and where your dresses begin is to use color hangers.
TIP 2: When you buy a new garment - discard a garment.

  • Create more space in your KITCHEN CABINETS/DRAWERS. Organize the PANTRY, REFRIGERATOR or RECIPES you've collected - Do you spend more time in your kitchen looking for ingredients or utensils than actually making that Quick & Easy Recipe?
TIP 1: Don't have time to re-write recipes you find on the internet or in a magazine, or look through all those recipes books?
*Print them from the internet *Tear them out of the magazine *Copy them from your recipe book *Place in sheet protectors *Put the sheet protectors in a ring-binder *Type or write a table of contents and list by categories *Separate categories by adding tabbed dividers.
Don't add a recipe unless you know it's a keeper. This will be your book of tried and true recipes! A great heirloom for the children and grandchildren. Be sure to hand-write a few recipes, add your comments or secret ingredients for that special touch.

  • Organize the paperflow & systemize your OFFICE or HOMEOFFICE - You can locate any document in thirty seconds or less with an effective filing system. If you can't afford a full-time office manager, you might consider hiring a Prof. Organizer a few times a month -- to pay bills, update financial records, respond to mail, and keep your business or home office running smoothly.
TIP 1: Create an index or cross reference and place it in front of your files for easy access.
TIP 2: Does your Accountant charge you to sort through your tax documents? Negotiate a lesser fee to send it sorted and organized.

  • Organize your GARAGE or SALE - Has your garage become a storage facility? Do you dread all the preparation it takes to have a garage sale?
TIP: Keep items that you intend to sell or give away in a central easy-to-get-to location, preferably in boxes or bags. This is a good way to visually keep tabs on how much is accumulating for a garage sale or trip to your favorite charity center.

  • Pack & Organize your BOXES when you relocate - Careful planning can save money during your move, as well as reduce the chance that anything will be lost in the transit. Organizing your office or household items as you unpack also reduces down-time during the move.
TIP: Most of us do not immediately unpack after moving so try cross referencing. Write the contents of the box on an index card. Buy a recipe card box if you plan to have numerous items stored off-site, in the garage or attic. Label the index card at the top with a "#1" and also on the box. Use a separate card for each box. This comes in handy with Christmas decorations. Locate the index card with Xmas decorations and bring out only the boxes with the corresponding numbers.

  • Organize your Children's TOYS - Do you hide the toys under the bed or toss them in the closet?
    TIP 1:
Containerize, Containerize, Containerize. Either clear or color containers that you can label. Same size so they stack nicely in the closet, under the bed or on shelves. Containerize with like items. As you put like items together, decide what can be given away or thrown away BEFORE containerizing it.
TIP 2: Set-up your child's room into different stations like the "Kid's Club" or your school's Kindergarten classroom. For example, ARTS/CRAFTS section, PUPPET theatre, DRESS-UP section, KITCHEN/COOKING station. Keep in mind your child's age and 'upgrade' the stations as they get older.

  • Organize your MEMORABILIA - Do you have shoe boxes overflowing with family photos or your children's artwork & school papers?
TIP: Display as much memorabilia as possible. If it's Out-Of-Sight, it's most likely Out-Of-Mind. FRAME-IT, BOX-IT, BOOK-IT - Get it out for everyone to enjoy. Before displaying your photos, organize them by categories. This makes it easier to decide which ones and how to display them, especially if you are a scrapbooker.
