The Wish Continued
Maybe this is like a video game and I just have to go with the flow until
it's over. And maybe- like in a video game, my family here is just a
copy, not the real thing, so when I'm done and I go back home they will
be there. I sure hope so. I guess if I'm going to be here I might as well
act like a Hobbit.* And at that, she finished her bath and changed into a
nightgown that was laying on her bed. She snuggled under the warm
blankets and blew out her candle. She hadn't noticed how tired she was
until now, and she drifted off to sleep.
Part 4 by Mir:
k here's chapter 4 of the wish.
Mara opened her eyes. She saw light streaming through her window. She
yawned and rubbed her eyes and looked around. She gasped and jumped out
of bed. *I'm still here! It must not be a dream. And I can still walk!*
She laughed and walked to the window. She opened it and let light come
into her room. She looked out. It was a beautiful day the birds were all
singing happily. One flew to her window and chirped at her. 'Hey there,
little guy,' She said. 'It's nice out, huh?' The bird chirped loudly and
happily as if to agree and then it flew away. She leaned on the
windowsill and sighed happily. *I love this place. It's so peaceful.* She
reached to finger her necklace and then gasped sadly as she opened the
locket and saw the painting of her family. Her eyes welled up with tears.
*I miss my family. I wonder how I will ever get back home... and if I
can, will my family all be there, or are my parents really both dead? I
hope not.*
Mara's stomach growled. *Well, I can't think on an empty stomach. I don't
have to be a Hobbit to be hungry all the time. I'd better get dressed and
go see what they have to eat around here.*
Mara saw a dress laid out neatly on her dresser. *Sam must have put that
there last night.* She picked it up and looked it at. She shook her head
and clicked her tongue. *Not quite my style. But it'll have to do.* She
quickly got dressed and combed her hair and then began walking down the
hall to find the kitchen. *You could get lost in this house. It goes on
forever. Something smells good. Must be breakfast!* Mara followed her
nose to the kitchen, where she saw someone frying eggs on an
ancient-looking griddle.
"Um, Good morning," Mara said. the cook turned around and smiled. It was
Sam. "Why, good mornin' Miss Mara. You're up early. I thought you would
be sleepin' in after your journey. Hope I didn't wake you."
Mara smiled and walked in. "On no. I've always been an early riser. When
the sun comes up, so do I. That smells really good, Sam."
"I hope you like scrambled eggs. If you don't, I can make you something
else."
"I love scrambled eggs. Back home, I would always get up and make them
for my par- um, for my dad..." Mara trailed off. Sam was quiet. Mara
changed the subject. "So, where's Frodo and Bilbo- I mean Mr. Baggins?"
Sam brought a steaming plate of eggs to Mara. "Mr. Frodo went out early
this morning to do some reading, Mr. Baggins is still in bed. He's not
much for early mornings."
Mara took a bite of the eggs. "Hmm... these are really good Sam. I bet if
you opened a restaurant people would come from all over just to get some
of your eggs." Sam blushed and turned away quickly. He mumbled something
that sounded like a thank you. Mara laughed silently. *Yep, he's Sam
alright. Just as shy and modest as I pictured him.*
After a bit of talking, Mara stood up and carried her dishes to the sink
and rolled her sleeves up. Sam ran to her. "What are you doing? You're a
guest here, Miss Mara. You needn't wash the dishes!" At that, Sam grabbed
the soap and began scrubbing the dishes. Mara laughed. "I think I might
go for a walk, Sam. Could you tell them where I've gone?" "Yes Miss,"
Sam Called from the kitchen. "Will you be back for lunch?" "If it's near
as good as breakfast, I will!"
Mara walked out the door. *I just hope I don't fall on my face. I've only
been walking for a day, after all.* She took a big, deep breath. *The air
is so clear here. I guess that 'cause there's no exhaust or anything to
pollute the air.* As She walked, enjoying the scenery, she stopped.
Right in front of her was Frodo Baggins sitting against a tree reading a
book! she began to walk towards him, but tripped over a rock and fell
down. *Oh I just knew it was gonna happen sometime!*
He looked up at her as she stood up and dusted herself off. 'Are you
alright?' Frodo asked.
'Yeah, I'm fine thanks,' She mumbled. 'Are you Frodo Baggins?'
'Yes,' he said, putting his book on the ground.
'Oh good, 'cause I'm Mara Dirsy, I got in last night, sorry it look me so
long-' Before she could finish her sentence, he jumped up and gave her a
huge hug. 'It's so good to see you again. I am so sorry about your
father.' *Again?*
'Um, it's great to see you too,' Mara said questioningly.
'Oh I don't suppose you would remember,' Frodo replied.
'What am I supposed to be remembering?'
'You used to live here, in Hobbitton when you were a baby. I would baby
sit you from time to time. Your father and my Uncle Bilbo were the best
of friends.'
"We did? When did we move?"
"A few years after your mother died. I'm sorry to bring that up, too. You
were 7, I was 14. How old are you now?"
*OK, quick math. Hobbits age kinda slow, so 14 would be about 9...*
"I'm 21 now," She answered, hoping that she had figured right.
Frodo nodded. "And how is your sister Dana? We were about the same age."
"She's doing good. And so is Cale."
"Cale? Is that the baby your father found and adopted?"
*Adopted? That's new.* "Yes."
"I'm sorry that couldn't come. When is Dana coming to take you home?"
*Oh no. The diary didn't say anything about that. Wait a minute.
Everytime I say something about myself, it turns out to be true. Either
I'm just a really good guesser or maybe- just maybe, I have to answer
different thing for myself. Like filling in the blanks, tiny little
details. I sure hope so!* "She said that she would be here sometime next
week."
"Good. Then we'll have plenty of time to talk," Frodo smiled and then
looked away. Mara heard a faint voice singing. Frodo turned around. "Come
on," he said, grabbing her hand. "What is it?" Mara asked as they ran,
even though she knew what it was.
They stopped at a hill and Frodo folded his arms as someone in a cart
slowed down and then stopped in front of them.
"You're late!" Frodo said sternly to the old man in the cart. He looked
up. It was Gandalf the wizard. He replied to Frodo. "A wizard is never
late, nor is he early, Frodo Baggins. He arrives precisely when he means
to!"
The two looked at each other for a few moments and then both began to
laugh. Frood jumped into the cart with Gandalf and they hugged. "It's
wonderful to see you again Gandalf!"
Gandalf chuckled and then looked up. He motioned to Mara. "Well, Frodo,
who is this?"
"Oh," Frodo said, standing up in the cart. "Gandalf, this is Mara Dirsy,
daughter of the sadly late Sean Dirsy. Mara, this is-" Mara cut him off.
"Gandalf the Grey, I know," she said, shaking Gandalf's hand.
"You have heard of me, then?" Gandalf asked. Mara smiled. "Sir, I think
everyone where I'm from has heard of you."
He smiled warmly at her. "Did I hear Frodo say that your father was
dead?" Mara put her head down. "Yes sir," she replied. "He died a few
days ago."
"Oh, I'm so sorry," Gandalf said.
"It's alright," Mara said, her eyes filling with tears. "It's hard but..."
Mara looked down at the bottom of the moving cart, trying to hide her
tears.
Frodo quickly changed the subject. "I'm glad you could make it, Gandalf,"
he said. "You didn't think I'd miss your Uncle's birthday? SO how is the
old rascal? I hear it is to be a party of special magnificence."
Frodo smirked. "The whole Shire's been invited. And the rest of them will
be turning up anyway."
As they rode, they laughed and talked happily, until Frodo suddenly
became very serious. "To tell you the truth, Bilbo's been acting a bit
odd lately. More than usual," he said, seeing the look on Gandalf's face.
"He's always locked up in his study. He spends hours pouring over old
maps when he thinks I'm not looking. He's up to something."
Frodo looked at Gandalf, who quickly looked away. "Alright then, keep
your secrets," Frodo said. "But I know you have something to do with it."
"Good gracious me!' Gandalf said, acting innocent. Frodo continued.
"Before you came along, we Bagginses were very much respected."
"Indeed."
"...Never went on any adventures or did anything unexpected."
"If you are referring to the incident with the dragon, I was barely
involved. All I did was give your uncle a little nudge out the door."
"Whatever you did, you've been officially labeled 'disturber of the
peace,' "
Gandalf raised his eyebrows. "OH really?" he looked around at all the
gloomy Hobbit faces they passed. Suddenly, they heard yelling behind
them. "Fireworks! Fireworks, Gandalf!" It was a group of little Hobbit
children. Frodo and Mara looked at Gandalf, who seemed unfazed by it.
"Oh..." the children sighed as Gandalf rode away from them. Suddenly,
fireworks popped out of the back of the cart and the children laughed
and cheered loudly. The three chuckled.
Gandalf stopped the cart and Frodo helped Mara out. "Well Gandalf," he
said. "I'm glad you're back."
"So am I, dear boy, so am I," Gandalf replied. "I Will see the two of you
tonight at the party," and at that, he rode away.
As Mara and Frodo walked together, Mara knew that she had made many good
friends in Middle Earth, and that she was going to make many more.
At long last, chapter 5
A/n: I got the idea for Mara re-doing her dress from the movie 'what a
girl wants.'(Really good movie) hope you can picture what it looks like.
I wanted to do something a little modern and girly in the movie, cause
that's me, girly and blonde (I知 worse than 'legally blonde' if that's
possible)(also a really good movie), so I hope you like!
This may not be one of my better chapters because I was really pushing
myself 2 finish it 2day, so I am kinda hurrying through, but I promise
that the following chaps will be better and if you're starting to fall
asleep, the action is about to pick up. (Grab your hankies 4 a coming
chapter)

Mara smiled. She had just had an awesome couple of hours with Frodo. He
had taken her around the Shire and had shown her everything she could
have ever wished to see, and more. She couldn't believe how beautiful it
had been. They had talked and laughed like they were best friends. Mara
didn't have any friends back home, so she at first was a little unsure.
But then she started having so much fun that she completely forgot about
home, and she was even starting to think that she didn't even want to go
back, she was having far too much fun. *Not that I don't love my family,
but there's not much except them to go back to, and I don't even know if
they are alive or not.* Mara and Frodo had gone back to Bag End to get
ready for the party that night. She still hadn't gotten to meet Bilbo
yet.
She stood in front of a dress that had been in her pack. It was a
straight pale blue with short sleeves and was about 4 inches below the
knee. *Not really my style.* she pulled out a pair of scissors and tapped
them on her cheek, thinking, then she began to cut the dress.
(Hours later)
There was a knock on Mara's door and Sam came in. 'Miss Mara,' he said.
'The party is about to start.' She smiled and nodded. 'Alright Sam, I値l
be there soon.' He nodded and left.*here goes nothing.* she took her
jacket off and stood before the mirror. *Looking good* Her dress was now
sleeveless, and she had cut the top of the sleeves that were there and
had tied them back into a bow on both sides. She had cut the front so
that it dipped down, but not too far, just a v-neck and had cut the
bottom off a few inches. She took the part she had cut off and sewed a silk
lace on it and used it as a wrap. She also took some more silver silk and
had sewn it on the bottom of the dress. She had painted that silk pink
and purple to add a splash of color to the boring pale blue, and she put
a pink flower in her blonde hair. She tossed her hair one last time and
walked out, feeling pretty good about the dress. It was modern, but still
had Hobbit in it, it was elegant and formal, yet very casual too,
perfect for a birthday party/making a good impression.
Frodo was waiting for her in the kitchen. He stood up and looked at her.
'You look very pretty,' he said and they left.
When they got to the party grounds, Mara smiled. *Just how I pictured it*
Mara walked past a wagon full of fireworks and heard something 'hey
Mara,' someone called. She saw Pippin and Merry. 'Hey,' she said. 'Shh!'
They both said, pulling her behind the wagon. 'Be quiet! You ever shoot a
firework?' *oh boy...* 'no,' Mara said. 'You wanna help us?' Merry asked.
'Won't we get in trouble?' Mara asked them. 'You don't want to be
scrubbing dishes the rest of the night.'
'Oh we never get caught,' Merry lied. Pippin looked at him 'well
actually, there WAS that one time where we-' Merry kicked him. 'So you
want to?' Mara chuckled and looked away for a split second. 'Well,
actually, I was juts about to go meet Bilbo, so maybe I値l come back
later and do one, alright? I won't tell anyone you're back here,' she
winked at them and walked away.
She saw Bilbo laughing with some friends and walked over to him. 'Hello,
sir,' she said. 'I'm Mara Dirsey, sorry we haven't had time to-' Bilbo
hugged her before she could finish. 'Oh Mara! So good to see you again,
you have grown so much. I'm so sorry about your father. I dearly wish I
could have made it for the funeral. Enough about that though. Enjoying
the party?' Bilbo said, almost too fast for her to understand. 'Yes,'
she said. 'It痴 a very nice party, I知 glad I came.'
'And so am I, though,' he looked down and became serious. 'I fear we
won't have much time to talk.' Mara understood what he meant and didn't
respond. 'Well,' Bilbo said cheerfully. 'You are young and
