basic plot: a girl is transported from present-day time to Middle-Earth
and joins the Fellowship
Warning: This is a long story, i'm really serious

Mara looked at her watch impatiently. She tapped her fingers on her leg
and sighed. She looked at her dad. "Two minutes." He smiled and shook his
head.
This was the day Mara had been waiting for nearly half a year: the day
that her favorite movie, 'Lord of the Rings:the Fellowship of the Ring'
would finally be out on video, she had begged her dad to take her to the
video store when it opened that morning so she could say she was the
first one to buy it there.
She looked down at her legs. She hated her wheelchair, she had been born
with a defect in her legs so she was never able to walk. She was confined
to this wheelchair for the rest of her life, but at least she could take
her mind off of it for a while.
Mara looked up and saw one of the workers unlock the door. "It's open,
Daddy," she said and she quickly rolled into the store and to the huge
stand of 'Fellowship of the Ring' copies. she grabbed one and smiled.
Finally! She hadn't been able to go see it in the movie theater because
it wasn't wheelchair-accesible.
As her dad drove her home, she held the movie as if it was made of gold.
Her dad smiled at her.
"You're going to have to do your schoolwork before you watch that, you
know," he said jokingly.
Mara smiled at him. Her parents had taken her out of school because she
was being picked on by the other kids, and now she was home schooled. "I
did extra yesterday," she replied. Her dad smiled and she rolled down the
ramp on her van and into the house. Everything was quiet. She rolled to
the elevator at the stairs. they had installed it when they moved in,
because Mara's room was in the attic. When she got to her room, she
sighed. Her room was the entire attic. She had her own bathroom, a
refrigerator and freezer, a microwave, a TV room and a study. Her room
was filled with Lord of the Rings things: posters, books, action figures,
puzzles, her computer had Lord of the Rings desktops and screensavers,
her wall covered with pictures of the cast, and even pictures and books
about New Zealand, where the movies were filmed.
She sat down in front of her TV and pressed 'play.' The movie began
playing. "The world has changed," Galadriel said, V-O. 'No,' Mara thought
sadly to herself. 'My life has always been like this...'
Mara saw a beautiful land. She smiled "That must be the Shire. It's so
pretty. Boy, what I wouldn't give to live there!"
She heard a ding. "poptart's ready." She rolled to the poptart and on her
way back, suddenly the wheels got stuck on a crack in the floor.
"No! not again!" she seethed as she finally got loose. "Ahh! I'm sick of
this stupid chair! I wish i could walk, I wish I could be in there."
Suddenly, Mara felt strange, like she was being pulled. There was a burst
of light and then everything went dark. Mara opened her eyes. She was
lying on the ground. She looked up and gasped at what she saw.

AUTHOR'S NOTE, EVERYONE PLEEZE READ!
hey y'all, hope you like my story so far. anyway, I just wanted to let
you all know that most of this story is going to be Mara thinking or
talking to herself, so to make it easier to tell when she is thinking and
not actually talking to someone or outloud, i will put what she says in
between the **. ok, here goes my second chapter, hope you like it!
~Mir

Mara looked around. She was no longer in her room. She was laying on top
of a hill surrounded by all kinds of beautiful smelling flowers.
*what in the world? Where am i?*
She looked down at her legs. *Oh no, where's my chair?! This is not
good!* Suddenly, Mara felt an urge to try to stand. Her legs moved and
she laughed with joy. She slowly and carefully stood up and steadied
herself against a tree. *no way! I can walk!* She laughed out loud and
took another step, then another, finally she had the courage to do
something she always wanted to do: she ran. She wind blew her hair and
she laughed . She looked at herself again and saw that she was wearing a
pale blue and white plaid dress, her feet were hairy, and she had a
backpack on her back. "This has got to be a dream," she said out loud.
"No dream, Miss," a voice behind her said. "But it is a sight to see,
isn't it?" Mara whirled around quickly and gasped at who she saw.
Standing in front of her was Billy Boyd, the actor who played Pippin in
the 'Lord of the Rings' movies, only he was in his costume.
Her eyes got big and she gasped. "Billy Boyd!" she yelled.
"Sorry Miss," he said. "But you must have me confused with someone else.
My name is Peregrin Took, but everyone just calls me Pippin."
He held out his hand to shake hers. "I'm Mara. Mara Dirsy." she shook his
hand. "Pleased to meet you, Mara," he said, smiling at her.
She smiled back, still in shock with what was happening.
"I've never seen you in Hobbitton before. Are you here for the party?" he
asked her. *I might as well go along with this wacky dream* "Um, yes. I
am."
"Wonderful! Where are you from?"
*great, what do I tell him: i got transported from 7,000 years in the
future? yeah like he'd believe that! What do I tell him?*
"I'm uh, I'm from- Bywater."
"Oh, wonderful place. I go there quite often. My friends and I love the
Green Dragon."
"oh yeah, it's... great."
"So are you here with your family?"
*oh boy, I don't know if I'm the only one here or not.* "Um, no. It's
just me."
"Oh. Well, you must be hungry after walking that long, let me take you to
lunch."
*no way!* "Really!? I mean, ok, that sounds nice."
Pippin smiled. "Good. I know just the place: The Golden Eagle. They have
wonderful food. I'm sure you will find something to your liking."
*Oh my word, I'm going out on a date with Pippin! This is great. This is
one dream i never want to end.*
Pippin and Mara walked, talking as they went. They soon reached the
Golden Eagle. Pippin opened the door for her and they sat down. Pippin
suddenly looked up. He smiled and waved. "Merry! Over here!"
Mara turned around and saw Merry walking towards them. 'Hello, Pip," he
said. He looked at Mara. "And who's this?"
"Mara, this is my friend Merry Brandybuck, Merry, this is Mara Dirsy.
She's here for Bilbo's party."
Merry smiled at her and they shook hands. "It's nice to meet you, Merry,"
Mara said. "Nice to meet you too," Merry replied.
The three talked and ate and laughed. Mara soon forgot her worries about
what was happening. Pippin and Merry were just as she imagined them. They
were funloving, happy, and very friendly. Before she knew it, many hours
had passed and Merry stood up. "Well," he said. "i'd best be going. It
was wonderful talking to you, Mara, and I hope to see you at the party
tomorrow." Mara smiled at him and he left.
"So, Mara," Pippin began. "Why did you come alone? Didn't your parents
want to come?"
"Oh, um they couldn't make it," she replied and looked away.
"So, are you an only child or do you have siblings?"
"I have an older sister and a baby brother."
"Really? What are they're names?"
"Dana and Cale. We adopted Cale when he was a baby."
"Dana didn't want to come?"
Mara sighed. *I wish he'd quit asking me about my family.* "She couldn't
come."
Mara began to miss her family. She didn't know where they were, or if
they had found her missing yet, or if this really was a dream. It didn't
feel like a dream, the food tasted real and she had even pinched herself
to make sure. Everything felt real.
*I wonder how I will get back home. Or if I even CAN get home. This is
beginning to turn into a nightmare!*

Chapter 3,
by Mir
After Mara,Pippin, and Merry had eaten and talked for quite some time,
Merry stood up. "Well," he said, "I must be going. It's getting late and
I don't want to be tired for the party tomorrow. I will see you there
Pippin, and you too, Mara. It was wonderful meeting you and I hope you
enjoy your stay."
"It was great to meet you too," Mara smiled. "I'll see you tomorrow."
Not long after Merry left, Pippin stood up. "Well, I suppose both of us
should be heading on home. You DO have a place to stay, don't you?"
"Yes, I do," Mara lied. "and thank you for supper. I'll see you tomorrow,
I guess."
Pippin smiled and nodded and then left. Mara slumped down in her seat.
*Great. Why did I have to lie about having somewhere to stay? I'm sure
Pippin could have found me someplace.*
Finally, Mara stood up and walked outside. It was getting dark and was
beginning to get chilly, too. She shivered and pulled her jacket tighter
around her. She looked down at her furry Hobbit feet. She still couldn't
get over the fact that she could walk. As she walked, she began kicking a
little stone. It was the first time she had ever kicked something before.
*Why am I here? How did I get here? Is this a dream or am I crazy, or is
this real? The food seemed real enough to me. Let's look at this like it
is real. Will I ever get home? Will I ever see my family again? Where
they taken too, or are they at home now, worrying about me?
This isn't as cool as I thought it'd be. Oh well... maybe I shouldn't
look at the glass half-empty but half-full. I should make the best of
this while I still can.*
She looked up and gasped at what she saw. She was in front on Bag End,
Frodo Baggins' house! *Well, can't hurt to try.*
She opened the gate and walked into the yard. In the dim light of the
moon, she could see beautiful flowers and plants everywhere. It smelled
wonderful. She saw someone sitting on the porch, potting a flower. He
had a lantern beside him and as she walked closer to him, she saw
realised that it was Sam Gamgee.
"Um, sir," she began, not sure what to say. He looked up at her and
smiled warmly. "Yes, Miss? How can I help you?"
"Um, yes Sir. Can you uh, can you tell how to get to Bag End, please?"
*Stupid!*
He smiled. "Why, Miss, this IS Bag End! Wait, are you Sean Dirsy's
daughter?"
*Sean Dirsy? That must mean that my dad's here!*
"Yes, I am. I'm Mara."
Sam quickly stood up and dusted himself off. Then he began talking
quickly, as if he thought he could never get all he wanted to say in.
"Oh, Miss Mara, it is so good to see you! We were so sorry when we heard
the news about your father's death, we knew how much you loved him. Oh,
Mr. Bilbo was so upset. He was so sorry he couldn't make the funeral, but
with the party and all, he just couldn't get away.
Oh, I'm sorry to bring it up first thing. I know how hard it is to lose
someone. I lost my mother when I was very young.
Mara, shaken by the news of her father barely choked out the words.
"It's- it's alright."
"Well, still the same I'm sorry. Oh, you probably don't remember me, it
was so long ago that you left Hobbiton. I am Samwise Gamgee, but everyone
just calls me Sam.
Now come along. We've expected you this afternoon for tea, but I suppose
walking the entire way would take longer than you think.
I have kept a bath warm for you, I know you will want to freshen up.
Come along, I'll show you to your room."
They walked into Bag End. It was huge and seemed to go on forever. Mara
looke din amazment at all the things she saw. There were beautiful
decorations everywhere, pictures hanging on all the walls, candles
burning to make it look cheery. It seemed to go on forever and never
stop.
"Here you are," Sam said, opening a door. "here is your room, I hope
you'll find everything you need. Mr. Baggins has already gone to bed, but
I will be next door if you need anything. I will see you tomorrow."
"Thank you, Sam," Mara said as she put her things on the huge fluffy bed.
Sam nodded and closed the door. Mara sighed and flung herself on the
bed. She sobbed. *My dad's dead, what am I going to do? Is the rest of my
family dead, too? This is crazy, I want to go home!*
She wiped her eyes and sighed. She realised how dirty she was. *I must
look like a sight. I suppose I sould get a bath and then maybe in the
mornign things will seem better. I hope I'll wake up and this will all
have been a dream!*
Mara stepped into the tub and sighed. The water felt good, She needed to
relax for a bit. Suddenly, She noticed that she was wearing a locket. She
opened it and gasped. Inside, there was a painting of her family! *I'm in
this, and Dad, Dana, Cale, but Mom's not. What's with that? And they all
look like Hobbits too!*
She looked at her backpack. *I wonder what else is in there. It looks
like I've got my own identity here.* She quickly threw on a robe and
began looking through the backpack. *A map. huh, and it had Bywater and
Hobbton both marked on it. Lucky guess, i guess. A Knife; a dress to
change into for the party; food; water; a blanket; an invitation to
Bilbo's party; and a book. It looks like a diary.* She opened the book
and began to read. *Maybe this will tell me more about myself.*
She noticed that the writing was shaky, as if whoever writing it was
hurrying, like there wasn't enough time to write neatly.

'September 13, 3001
Father has become very sick. The doctor says he has phnemonia. We are
very worried.
~Mara Dirsy'

*phnemonia?! Is that how Dad died? This girl has my name. Maybe I DO have
my own identity here.*

'September 15, 3001
Father is much worse. We don't know how long he will last. Dana is very
worried.
Cale is hard to keep still. It's hard to take care of him and Father at
the same time. I wish Mother hadn't have died when I was a baby, Father
said that she knew how to heal anything. I'm sure she could help Father.
~Mara Dirsy'

*Great, so Mom's dead too? I don't know how much more of this I can take.
I wish I would wake up!*

'September 16, 3001
Father died today. I miss him so much. How will we ever get along without
him?
The funeral is tomorrow.
~Mara Dirsy'

Mara wiped the tears from her eyes as new ones formed. *He IS dead! Oh
no! what am I going to do? Him AND Mom are both dead!*

'September 17, 3001
Father's funeral was today. I miss him horribly. It was so hard. I don't
know how we are going to handle this.
Good news though, we got a letter from Mr. Baggins inviting us to his
birthday party. Dana can't go, but she said that she wanted me to go,
that I needed it. I will leave tomorrow to get there. How I wish I had
exercised more! I am in horrible shape to be walking that far alone.
Mr. Baggins said I may stay as long as I like.
~Mara Dirsy'

Mara closed the book. *That's the last page written. At least now I know
more about 'myself' now. Whoever I am. Some questions have been solved.
About my family at least. But there are many more: like, how did I get
here?
