Show Details
Intro followed by Silver Tongue. As usual this song grooves along nicely, Gillan sounds a bit rough here. Nice solo from Steve. I still think they could do something with the end that's a bit more exciting, but a great start nevertheless. Straight into Woman From Tokyo - nice and powerful version with Gillan screaming well at the end. "Muchas Garcias. Thank you very much." "Two songs relating to the same person, my first wife", introduces I've Got Your Number. Both Steve and Don solo well here. Strange Kind Of Woman follows. This song swings along nicely with great playing from Steve and Don again." "Here's one with an unusual time signature," introduces Bananas. (You can hear someone in the audience yelling to people down the front to sit down?) Bananas just rocks along.. . superb!! " We used to live in caves"..introduces Knocking At Your Back Door, Gillan acknowledges the fact that they are in Northern California during this intro. Gillan asks for the audience's attention while he introduces Contact Lost and The Well Dressed Guitar which is swiftly followed by Don's solo that includes I left my Heart in San Francisco. A powerful Perfect Strangers finishes of the set.

The Intro for Machine Head live is followed by a count in on the
hi-hat prior to Highway Star which is unusual. The audience response at the end of this one shows what most of them were there for. There is no in between song chat as the band blast through Maybe I'm A Leo, Pictures of Home, Never Before, Smoke and Lazy. All fantastic stuff and too many highlights to list here. Gillan introduces When A Blind Man Cries as a song they recorded but didn't know where to stick it... so they were going to stick it here.
This a real tour de force with fantastic playing from Steve, and a great vocal from Ian - sublime. Space Truckin' starts with a heavy bass from Roger and then just rolls along short, sharp and to the point. Encores follow with Hush and then Gillan invites any ex-members of Deep Purple in the audience to join them on stage. Joe Satriani borrows Steve's no 1 guitar and joins in for Black Night. All in all a great performance enhanced by the appearence of Joe. (So where's the Reno gig then?)
