Show Details
I just got back from Montreux on the Lake Geneva shoreline...
Deep Purple came one stage at midnight and left at 1.45. They had their work cut out for them after two great support acts.
Cheap Trick was as eclectic as ever with Rick Neilson changing guitar almost every number his 5 neck has to be seen to be believed...
Status Quo really put on a show with a 90 minute set of classic hits from their boogie days.... great stuff..
Purple came on at Midnight. I had been informed that the headline act came on second and it was advertised as such in the programme. But Purple were last on the bill and had to play to a audience who were already exhausted by Quo's performance and standing since 7.00pm (in most cases longer).
I was a bit worried that they wouldn't pull it off and had visions of Wembley 2003 when the support clearly won the day but this was not to be the case.
They were superbe..
Steves prolonged solo spot, Demons Eye and the jazz improvisation before Smoke were personal highlights for me.
The sound was excellent & the performance was tremendous especially considering the band were playing their 3rd back to back show.
Live feed to the large screens at the side of the stage gave a great view of the proceedings to all..(even those who stayed in the bar)
All in all a fantastic show..
