Show Details
Woman From Tokyo opens. Ian Gillan namechecks the venue and then announces Ted The Mechanic as, "A story about a guy who we met while we were recording Perfect Strangers". "There are two people in heaven now, not laughing" precedes Mary Long nice guitar break in the middle of this one. "It came from what we thought of at the time...it relates to the baby's arm.." intro's Lazy. Great solo from Jon at he beginning and superb solos from Steve. Then the intro for Child In Time, again great playing from Steve here. No One Came is preceeded by a long rap from Ian about 70s era rock bands." We wrote a song forseeing the future" Fantastic groove all through this one. "When Steve joined the band about 9 years ago we discovered he was an Aviator..." intoduces The Aviator. The Well Dressed Guitar follows.
Before the band start Up The Wall, Ian says "Why don't you go and moo in a trough outside somewhere", in relation to someone mooing like a cow throughout the gig. (The offending person was later removed after receiving a slap from Gillans micstand, apparently). Gillan also says that the song is nothing to do with the pissing contest mentioned on his website (see link below). "There's one person in this hall thinks we are a heavy metal band so we'd like to do a thing called Fools". Very good version of this song from the whole band. A short but sweet solo from Jon leads straight into a superb Perfect Strangers. "This song started off as a B side", introduces When A Blind Man Cries which is truly sublime. Gillan's conga solo brings in Steve's Riff Raff with excerpts from Black Dog - Led Zeppelin, Back In Black - AC/DC, Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)- Jimi Hendrix, Hey, Mr Tambourine Man - The Byrds, Won't Get Fooled Again - The Who, Here Comes The Sun - Cockney Rebel, and one riff I don't know (so anyone reading this, with a copy of the show, let me know what it is!! Smoke On The Water follows with great soloing from Steve. "This is a tartan sort of a ..." intros a cool blues riff from Gillan prior to Speed King which concludes the main part of the show. Encores follow with a short rendition of Hush and a cracking version of Highway Star. Good show on all fronts. "Thank you, take it easy, bye bye"
