Last leg of the UK tour. Gillan announces this so to speak and namechecks Birmingham at the end of Strange Kind Of Woman.
A great performance in a crap venue. Why Deep Purple insist on playing this place beats me.
The band blast through the first 4 numbers without pausing for breath. Gillan intros Rapture of The Deep with a namecheck for Birmingham. Fireball is opened with a Paice flurry and Gillan scream and ends with a great solo from Don.
Gillan gets a breather with Morse's solo and the Well Dressed Guitar.
The tempo drops for When A Blind Man Cries. Dons solo is up next but it is the intro to Lazy tonight not the usual Perfect Strangers.
"From the depths of Hell" The Battle Rages On is a gem brought back from the troubled past and it sounds great.
Now we are into the string of standards that are required at a Purple show these days. Space Truckin is very powerful with a great Roger Glover bass sound, Smoke is Smoke and Hush and Black night are the obligitory encores.
A typically polished performance from Purple. Good show.
