Show Details
First of two nights at the Beacon begins with an intro tape followed by Silver Tongue. Gillan is in fine voice. Screaming his lungs out. Nice to hear this as an opening number. Straight into Woman From Tokyo. Gillan name checks the venue at the end of WFT. I've Got Your Number follows. References to bodyparts introduces Strange Kind Of Woman. Good solo from Steve here. Bananas introduced as in 7/4 and 5/4. Great version. Talk of caves in London lead us to Knockin At Your Back Door. The story of STS-107 brings us to Contact Lost followed by the Well Dressed Guitar. Dons solo includes New York, New York & leads into Perfect Strangers.
Thunder, lightning and rain bring in the into to Highway Star much to the audiences delight. Storming rendition of this. "Oh boy its all coming back to me now" precedes Maybe I'm A Leo. Introduces Pictures Of Home as about "a time during the session where we were feeling a bit depressed so we wrote this song. Another great version.
"We had high hopes for this but it sank without trace when the Dan Dan song came on the scene" takes us to Never Before. Nice and funky.
A Superb rendition of When A Blind Man Cries follows. "aw-right thats enought of that, here we go again" Intros Space Truckin'. Tent poles and Duvets introduce Lazy. The band stick to the album version very well here. Smoke On The Water ends the show proper. Speed King and Hush are the encores which rounds off a professional and enjoyable performance.
