THE TUMBLING RUN adventure run & SPRINT ' O 2007

You are invited to the first THE TUMBLING RUN adventure run and orienteering weekend, 3 races in 2 days, 2 sprint orienteering races Saturday, with benefits, going to the US "O" teams. They will be held in and around, the Pine Grove Furnace State Park, in central PA, USA on 3 adjacent orienteering maps, modified to fit the specific of the events, including the special stages of the race. The sprint O races will require advanced or higher specific navigational skils. The navigational skills needed for THE TUMBLING RUN, will vary, from very easy, to intermediate, there is not going to be any advanced orienteering involved, since we have 2 very technical orienteering courses, the day before.
This is going to be a delightful weekend of orienteering ,trail running and adventure, featuring, the famous Appalachian Trail, which ,will unveil some of the most beautiful, scenic portions of it.
SCHEDULE:
FRIDAY : Arrival of early competitors, who want the opportunities to check out the surroundings, or just rest for the races.(Optional)
SATURDAY : Arrival of the rest of the participants, before 10 AM.
8-11AM: Registration open for the "O" races.
10AM-1 PM: Start recreational courses
12 PM: Start Farsta
1:30 PM: First start sprint
3 PM: Awards
Following awards, FREE Romanian Style Barbecue(unfortunately without beer, due to park regulations).
SUNDAY:THE TUMBLING RUN adventure course
7-9 AM: Registration and Course packets handed out
9:45AM: Race starts(mass start)
1 PM: Estimated finishing time for the winning team
2:30 -3 PM: Awards
OTHER INFO&RULES:The orienteering races will be individual races with awards given in the age groups.18-35, 35-45 and over 45 both male and female. THE TUMBLING RUN adventure race, will be a mass start team competition, teams consisting, of 3 members, in the following categories:OPEN, COED and MASTERS. Masters team will have to total more than 120 years, between the 3 members of the team. The teams will follow written instructions, maps, aerial photos compasses, sometimes your instincts :),some other time you might run in to some unconventional,"way finding" methods, but it will be fun, I guarantee, that. I am trying to have electronic punching, but that is uncertain, at the moment. For the orienteering races the IOF/USOF rules are in effect, for the adventure race there going to be written instructions&rules in the race packets, wich will be handed out at least 1 hour before the race, togheter with the master map and other things. In general similar rules, as for the orienteering races, with alterations to fit the specific of the race or stage in the race. The instruction that each team will receive, when they pick up their packets, should be clear for everyone. Also ~ 1/2 hour before start, I will have a briefing, about the race and you will be able to ask questions, about anything that is not clear to you. Teams will have to carry anything else they might think necessary for their safety(first aid stuff, water, food)we will have watter stops but you will have to have your own water bottle(s).
DIRECTIONS: From I 81 just south of Carlisle ,PA, take the Newville exit and turn south on Rt. 233(left if you travel southbound and right if you travel northbound on I 81)After ~ 6 miles you should get to a T in the road with a stop sign and the park office just across the road. Follow O signs, from there.
LODGING:
There are excellent conditions to camp out at Pine Grove Furnace State Park, contact the park office, to announce that you will be camping, if you do. The weather is mild or pleasant and they are also many motels/hotels in the nearby town of Carlisle,PA.
FEES:$ 30.00/person for Saturday 2 races.
$ 120.00/team for THE TUMBLING RUN on Sunday
AWARDS:Participation awards for all entrants, also prizes for the special stage in the TUMBLING RUN.
Prizes for the top 3 in the orienteering races in each category and the top 3 teams in each category in the TUMBLING RUN.
Also a % from the total entry fees, will be awarded to the winning teams(1 st. place in each cat.) in THE TUMBLING RUN, in equal shares.
REGISTRATION:TBD
Your entry form should contain the following:Name and category, entered for orienteering races.
Team name and team members names, date of birth and category entered, for the TUMBLING RUN race. Also, you can include any other info, that you might think it might be usefull.
DEADLINE FOR ENTRIES:TBD.NO ENTRIES ACCEPTED AFTER THIS DATE.
LEGAL STUFF:If you decide, that you still want to come out and race after all the b......t, writen in here:),you should know, that you will be 100% responsible of what you do and happens to you as a result of entering and participating in this events, as this type of activity can be hazardous(who am I kidding?)to your well beeing.Waivers will be signed at registration time.
