Microtel is committed to addressing the needs of travelers with disabilities. We strive to ensure that all our properties are ADA-compliant and feature a designated number of rooms at each that are available for guests with disabilities. These rooms feature everything that travelers with disabilities need, such as doors that can accommodate wheelchairs, roll-in showers with hand-held showerheads, bathrooms with rails, and more. We strive for "attitude accessibility" as well and will soon be the only hotel chain to include "Opening Doors" training to staff at all our hotels.
What Is Opening Doors® ?
The Opening Doors® video training programs in disability etiquette teach hospitality employees how to be friendly and helpful to travelers with disabilities. These programs go beyond awareness or sensitivity training by teaching practical service skills covering customer relations, operational procedures, emergency and safety considerations, and an awareness of "people first" terminology. Developed by persons with disabilities, the Opening Doors program is currently being implemented system-wide by Microtel, as well as at major restaurant chains and entertainment companies across the U.S. Look for the Opening Doors logo at businesses using this innovative program.
