'My Favorite Things’, our wedding celebration, was a grand gathering of the circle of family, faith and friends which exceeded our expectations.
Guests trickled in by air and ferry to join us on beautiful Santa Catalina Island. Held at the tiny Catalina Bible Church, the ceremony was one of elegant understatement.
Music was provided by the exceptional Bradley Baker who offered soul-stirring renditions of ‘Climb Every Mountain’ and Duke Ellington’s ‘Come Sunday.’
The Repast followed at one of the finest homes on Catalina, with spectacular views of Avalon Harbor. A member of my church family said it felt just like one of those “down home weddings.” It was truly an experience that we will treasure for life.
Here is what my Che from Atlanta said about her experience:
"I cannot express how happy I was to be a part of your special day. Your wedding was so very beautiful and special from start to finish. I especially loved the "circle of prayer" that ended the ceremony. I pray that God will continue to encircle you with his love and grace. I wish for you a sweet and happy life together."

I am settling into a new postion with the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA) as Director of EEO/Member Services. AFTRA is one of the preeminent advocacy groups in Hollywood and diveristy is an issue that I care about deeply. I am excited about bringing my wealth of resources and relationships to the table on behalf of such a strong organization. A few highlights that have resulted from my initiative and energy:
- securing an interview on The Tavis Smiley Show on NPR for the John Connolly, national president of AFTRA and Melissa Gilbert, national president of the Screen Actors Guild;
- AFTRA participating as a sponsor of a tribute to the legendary Barry White;
- AFTRA hosting a luncheon for NAACP Chairman Julian Bond.
Thanx to an invitation from Congresswoman Maxine Waters, I represented AFTRA at the 2003 Congressional Black Caucus Annual Legislative Weekend. It was totally awesome and amounted to a life-changing experience for me. The fabulous Congresswoman put me on a panel titled "Young, Gifted and Black" and had me in the company of the legendary Russell Simmons, Rev. Run, Doug E. Fresh, Mos Def, MC Lyte, Kenny Lattimore and Angie Stone. As a native of DC, I have participated in legions of CBC Weekend events as panelist and event producer. But this experience tops them all and has opened doors that will take me far! In case you didn't know -- Maxine Waters is 'da bomb!
My husband Randy continues to knock 'em dead as a specialist for BERNINI'S-Beverly Hills, providing advice and gear for athletes and Hip Hop celebrities such as Ludicris.
I am STILL enjoying my time as a Bride and a newlywed! The Lord is blanketing us with blessings.
