We are proud of our diversity. Yes, as in all nations, there are those who have racist attitudes - that's human nature - but the vast majority of our citizens are most tolerant of all our many different ethnic groups who have enriched the Australian cultural scene beyond measure. Thanks to all of you, whatever be your ethnic background. Now please excuse me for saying this but, after promoting Multiculturalism in Australia for nearly ten years, I am saddened by those - only a few radicals - from various ethnic communities, who are not prepared to be truly "MULTI-cultural" . They want only ONE culture and that of
ISLAM.
Because of this, I must issue :-
A WORD OF CAUTION, IF NOT A
WARNING
By all means, let us promote Multiculturalism within our democratic societies, BUT, those coming from other countries, particularly of Islamic background, should not "strive" (= "JIHAD") to impose their religion on others. Islam, being a "theocracy", is totally opposed to the democratic systems we treasure in our Western society, with the dignity of women honoured. To our Muslim friends we say "Come but don't get too religious"!
