Hello! This is Missy and you have visited my CP book forum. I have read Pike's published YA and adult novels and (for my own pleasure) have reviewed them and stated my insights. I love Pike's stories because they have a mysterious, enticing hook to every one of them and leave you asking "Why?". "The Visitor" is a smartly written sci-fi novel with the important characters Mary,Jerry,Tom and also Clareesh,Jarteen, Klaxtor, and Phairee.
These characters intertwined in roles which made the book a bit confusing, but all the more alluring. Clareesh, in truth, never existed in Mary, for she never left her black tomb. But she was drawn to Jarteen incarnated into Jerry's body. Clareesh couldn't have reincarnated because: A) she never died (she was still in the tomb) and B) she was not human and could not reincarnate. this is near-truth because in the book when Mary speaks to Jerry as a live corpse, she says she cannot meet him again because they are not the same. He would go on, while she would circle her forsaken path in the tomb. This whole part of the story is so depressing and sad, because their love is lost. Yet it is remembered within Clareesh.
