Masters City Golf Association
The Masters City Golf Association, Inc. (MCGA) is a nonprofit organization chartered in the State of Georgia. Eleven Augusta and Fort Gordon golfing friends organized the MCGA on September 12, 1984.The MCGA currently has more than 80 Active, Life and Honorary members. The Constitution and By-laws carried out through its elected officers and appointed committees, govern the activities and operations of the MCGA. Consistent with its purpose and objectives, the MCGA strives to be a progressive supporter of golf and other worthy causes within the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA).
Purpose: The purpose of the MCGA is to introduce and promote golf to the youth of the CSRA.
Objectives:
To promote two annual inivitational golf tournaments.
To promote golf clinics and workshops for all interested youth and adults.
To promote golf excursions in and out of the area.
To provide an annual scholarship to a youth from within the CSRA.
To promote frequent group play between the members and guests.
To conduct an annual MCGA member's championship tournament.
To conduct a minimum of two fund raising activities annually.
To Support the community by making donations to worthy causes within the CSRA.
Membership: The MCGA welcomes for membership any individual, approved by the membership, who wishes to share in the common commitment to the purpose and objectives of the association. MCGA membership is open to individuals of any sex, age or race despite a golf handicap. One MCGA member in good standing must recommend a prospective member. There are four classes of membership within the MCGA: Active, Life, Honorary and Auxiliary. The Constitution and By-Laws govern the requirements of each class of membership.
Membership Requirements:All Active and Life members of the MCGA are responsible for the following:
Keeping their Membership dues current.
Attending monthly MCGA meetings on a regular basis
Playing or working in the annual MCGA"Classic" Tournament (September)
Playing or working in the annual MCGA"Shootout" Tournament (March)
Holding appointed positions or serving and standing committes
Participating on a regular basis in monthly MCGA golf outing
Selling raffle tickets for the MCGA fund-raising events
Selling at least two dance tickets for the MCGA annual dance
Play in golf tournaments held by supporters of the MCGA,when possible
Meetings: The MCGA conducts both scheduled and called meetings. Currently, all scheduled meetings are held on the last Thursday of each month. The secretary will notify members of all called meetings. Each member is encouraged to regularly attend all monthly meetings.
Advancing MCGA Purpose and Objectives
Over the years the Masters City Golf Associastion, Inc has provided steady and vital annual support for junior golf and other wothy causes within the CSRA. The following review will provide a capsule summary of this support:
MCGA Junior Golf Program: The MCGA operates its junior golf program annually from June to August, during the school break. The program is free and open to any interested youth and is totally funded by MCGA. We target the program at, but not restricted to, the young beginning golfer, adults are welcome provided there are available slots. The MCGA provides all instruction, practice balls, green fees, golf clubs, and refreshments. The program ends with a junior golf tournament. Currently MCGA provide annual support the The Augusta First Tee Program and provides volunteers.
MCGA College Scholarship: The MCGA provides an annual college scholarship to a deserving youth within the CSRA. The MCGA scholarship committe selects the recipient by approved criteria and has awarded 12 scholarships in the past eight years.
National Miniority Junior Golf Scholarship Association (NMJGSA)The MCGA donates annually to the NMJGSA based in Phoenix, AZ.
