The mark of good scholarship is the ability to present a comprehensive view of the available facts, having access to the original source, and talking to the source, himself.
Before he died, I had a good relationship with Fasold. We e-mailed back and fourth and even discussed our point of views publicly on various news groups. Various web sites, such as Tentmaker.org and others seem to have not been in contact with David Fasold, and neither are they aware of Fasold’s stances as they appeared on the news groups. Even some of Fasold’s other acquaintances will tell you that Fasold did not: 1. in total recant the Noah’s Ark site, but that his final conclusion was that he did not know what it was. 2. That Fasold reaffirmed that there is a clear pattern of iron on the ship. 3. That critics such as Dr. John Baumgardner did him “wrong.”
In the quote above, Fasold says that his article written with Larry Collins presupposes that Noah’s Ark is a syncline. A syncline, to those who do not have access to a standard dictionary, is a term in geology denoting a type of naturally folded rock. In this case Fasold says that his study “presupposes” that the formation in question is a syncline. Science does not “presuppose” anything, but rather, basis all theory on observation. For this reason, Fasold’s study can be considered irrelevant, and in contradiction to the truth.
