Karnak-4

Hypostyle Hall - Karnak Temple
The hypostyle hall was begun by Seti I and completed by Ramesses II.
The columns bore the ceiling structure, the nave being built considerably higher than each of the seven sides aisles in the northern and southern sections. The area of the hall is 5500 sq. m. and has 134 columns. The height of the columns is 24m.
Each row has nine columns and each innermost row flanking the central colonnade contains square columns at both ends instead of the bundled papyrus shape. The columns are constructed of massive drums and stand on high round bases. The top edge is made up of square abaci upon which colossal architraves supporting the roof beams rest.
