Salisbury Painter Brings Starry Sky Inside
November 8, 2006 - 6:02am

The (Salisbury) Daily Times
SALISBURY, Md. (AP) - Jeremy Harrington doesn't need a night-light.
It's not even a problem getting the 6-year-old to go to bed. When his friends and family come over, he can't wait to show them his room.
The littlest of the Harrington crew falls asleep watching a deep-space battle every night. It's not a movie or TV show. It's his bedroom ceiling.
Even with increasing light pollution on the Eastern Shore, Starscapes of Delmarva owner Mike Miller brings a crisp, clear night sky to bedroom ceilings.
"It's hard to explain," he said. "You just lay down and it looks like your roof is gone and you're looking at the stars."
Through a secret process called Galactification, Miller paints stars, constellations, planets, even spaceships and fairies to ceilings and walls. He can even recreate a particular date, month or season of stars at one's home.
"You can pick the date, and I'll do the stars," he said. "I'll do anything they want."
Miller was looking for something to do with his 18-year-old son Michael after he graduated high school. The young Miller had no ambition for college.
"I saw this in a business magazine and checked it out," Miller said. "I thought it'd be something good."
With the number of resorts on the Eastern Shore, Miller knew that a ceiling spread with stars would be great for any traveler.
Andy Patel, owner of Best Value Inn & Suites in Chincoteague, couldn't pass up the opportunity to have shooting stars and constellations on the ceiling for his customers.
"I get good comments from customers," he said. "They like it. It's something new, and my customers, they like to see something different than what they can get at other hotels."
Joy Brumbley of Bundles of Joy Learning Center in Salisbury found out about Starscapes through a pamphlet Miller dropped off.
With a new house and three kids, she too gave Miller a chance to wow her.
The project started in her 5-year-old daughter's room with a little bit of fairies. Then it migrated to her 9-year-old son's room with planets and constellations. Now, her 2-year-old toddler has a Skylite to the stars.
"It's amazing," Brumbley said. "When you turn lights off, it glows like you're outside."

Miller is an artist. He creates something different each time he starts to galactify. He takes into account the person, room and theme _there are six _to create the best, astronomically correct night sky. The paint absorbs the energy from light during the day, and when the lights go out, the paint can shine for four to 25 hours.
For boys there are deep-space battle scenes. Girls can have fairy adventures. Adults can look at their favorite constellations.
Being in a family operated business, Miller wants to give back to his community in any way possible. So, he's offering to add a Starscapes Stargazing Skylite to the ceiling of any terminally ill patient _ child or adult.
"It's hard to do sometimes, and this is calming and soothing. People get a lot of joy out of it."
The desire to give a view of the stars derives from his mother, who died from cancer. She was bedridden, he said. She laid in bed for months staring at a blank ceiling. On the good days, he could take her outside, where they would sit on the deck and watch the sunset and look at the stars.
"Mom would have been proud," he said. "She would have loved it."
After Jeremy's ceiling turned into a starry stage, it became the talk of his friends and family. Now, his cousin's getting a battleship fantasy on his ceiling and another cousin may even get a fairy or two on her's. Harrington is even considering enchanted fairies or heavenly angels for her 10-year-old daughter's room.
Miller says many people start with just one room, then they want more.
Patel and his customers were so pleased with the results from the stars and planets that he decided to hire Miller to paint the night sky on the ceilings of the Econolodge in Salisbury.

The Hottest Home Business in the Universe!
I have been doing STARSCAPES for a few months now and WOW! I have not ran into a person yet who doesn't love it. Once they see for themselves they just want it on the spot. Thomas Fuller, S.A.I.
Did a skylite in my home first, showed the kids, they just jumped up and down and immediately ran downstairs to grab my equipment so I could do their bedrooms! Tonight I'm doing an 11 x 14 foot room for $1500. If they like it, they'll get it for the kid's rooms. And if they get 3 couples over, I told them that I can save them a couple hundred dollars. This is everything I expected, Joe, and I've got 18 demos to do! Jay Svacina, S.A.I.
I received my StarBiz from the U.S.A. in four days, and painted my bedroom. Two of my friends came over to see it and they both want it! They have agreed to pay me $1,000 and $1,200! I am so excited to be a licensed STARSCAPES Artist-Illusionist! Thank you, Joe! Vinoo Varghese, S.A.I.
Artist Cheryl Hunt creates astronomically correct murals of the night sky, such as the one her husband, Gerry, illuminates in their Bend home. The nightscapes cost from $3 to $3.50 per square foot, though other artistic flourishes, such as angels, fairies or spaceships, are available for up to $4.75 per square foot. - Melissa Jansson / The Bulletin
STARSCAPES... Highly Impressed!
It's always great to hear from our customers!
I have received the Starscapes business package and was highly impressed with the quality of the Galactification Machine, and all the other materials that came with it.
The 70 lb package arrived at our door with amazing speed. I sent you a bank draft on a Monday afternoon, and the package arrived Wednesday at 1 pm.
I'm extremely cautious of any internet offers, and took a full 5 months of careful research, including the Phoenix Better Business Bureau, before I finally made a decision to purchase.
My initial reaction to the Starscapes web page was that it was too good to be true, however I sent for their "demo poster" just to see if it would impress me and my friends, as the site promised. I was very pleasantly surprised with the results. I showed a few friends the poster to see if there would be a market for Starscapes in my area. Most of my showings Are very positive, with the end result being, 5 to 8 ceilings to do before I even decided to buy the business package.
Before I made the final decision to purchase, I had a number of questions that needed to be answered. Alex Page, from Starscapes returned my call within minutes. Over the next two weeks, I made further calls, and each time my call was returned within minutes. I have found that the"exceptional service" has continued even after I bought the package. And Alex is a very sincere, no pressure representative.

There are 5 key factors shaping the years to come.
_________________________________________________
1. UNCERTAINTY AND ANXIETY
Anxiety about the economy; layoffs = job uncertainty.
Politics and war = worries about inconvenience and
sacrifices. People usually spend money on the basis
of where they expect to be in the future, not where
their finances are today. If people are not sure
they will be able to keep their jobs, they curtail
their spending.
2. DISTRUST
Add to this everything else that has happened since
9/11, especially the scandals in government, church,
and business. Of course, Americans have always
distrusted institutions like government and big
business, but the levels of distrust are particularly
high nowadays. There is no one to trust. People
are unnerved by this. People have erected barriers
to block advertising and marketing messages. Until
people see honesty and integrity in the marketplace
and in society at large, businesses will face a steep
uphill battle.
3. TRANSITION
What people used to do, how they used to shop,
how they used to make decisions and behave, all
no longer seem to fit how people feel about the future.
People are reinventing their lives to better reflect
their priorities.
The new interest in family and home has put the old
ways of managing money in transition. Change
creates new opportunities. And there is more change
and transition going on with people nowadays than
at any point in the last three decades.
4. TIME
More than ever, people want more time. More than
money and more than stuff, people want time. Not
just time per se, they want more enriched time,
more organized time, and more enjoyable time.
Two weeks after the 9/11 disaster in New York City,
Starscapes International received three phone calls
from people in New York City wanting STARSCAPES® in
their home.
People want some relief from complexity, over-
abundance and stress. They want a sense of control
and serenity.
5. SMALL INDULGENCES
People are anxious to relieve some of the pressures
weighing on them. So, the interest in rewards and
luxuries continues to grow even in the face of
economic strains and psychological stresses. But
people don't want the sparkle and glitz of big
extravagances. Instead, they want small indulgences
that reflect and reward family and home (eg. Starbucks).
This is not to say that people don't have higher
expectations than ever before. The mainstreaming
of the affluent attitude has not been rolled back.
Small indulgences can add big value, particularly
if they provide an honest, authentic, satisfaction
that enriches time and relieves the worries of
uncertainty and mistrust. More and more people
need these small indulgences to help them through
the transitions facing them in the year to come.
Max, you can bring honesty and integrity
back into the marketplace with STARSCAPES®. When
you give people a free demonstration in their own
home, they see it for themselves, believe it and
simply put... They want it, and... need it.
Their worries of the day melt away. STARSCAPES®
is relaxing, romantic, educational and stress-
relieving. STARSCAPES® enriches the family time.
BE A HERO.
