Oriental Rug Services

This is a temporary site, for my services ( mainly the binders ) I hope to have a picture of one scanned very soon. I will answer any questions about cleaning and repairs. I have over 5 years in the buisness.

About the Binder:

I'm in the process of making some very rare hand-binded books. They will be samples of
Oriental rugs from different countries, regions cities/villages and tribes and from different
periods of time. You will be able to flip through these binders ( each one will be hand-
made, and unique with side notes describing each sample in detail) and see different
samples from both sides ( the edges will be secured to keep from unraveling, without
ruining the the construction of the weave ). The focus will be on rugs from origional
weaving countries, and I will go into detail about the different effects of different time
periods (some change alot due to commercialism, tradition, govermant monopoly,
availability of dyes and material, ect), and how to identify them like an appraiser. Though
some reproductive countries will be covered such as pre-communist, semi-antique
chinese, I can not focus on Indian, pakistani, or any mass produced materials, they are for
the most part not really worth going into. The whole point of this is to offer much of the
knowledge it took me years to achieve for the better buisness practice/protection of any
serious collectors, dealers, designers, appraisers, insurance persons/ financial institutions
or any one else who needs my expert material.

This is a rare opertunity and I'm only accepting serious inqueries. I use my materials to
repair old rugs, and it took awhile to collect my samples from used, semi-antique, and
antique rugs. Most were from damaged, past repair left-overs. Which also means I WILL BE
LOOKING TO BUY MORE DAMAGED RUGS, FRAGMENTS, AND SCRAPS OF "OLDER" RUGS
ONLY!!

please email me with any questions or comments. Also if you have a peice beyond repair,
of 50+ years of age, you would like to get rid of, then please send me a picture of front
(top of pile, if pile) and back, with any info you know, and price desired (remember rugs
damaged beyond repair have no resale value, I'm am currently not interested in investing
in anymore than scrap). Feel free to email me for a pricelist of binders, depending on the
content/focus.

It's strange because I'm actually doing this to pay for my appraisal certifications and
testing, and to fund my own rug buisness and services, and get recieve my Senior
Membership with an appraisal Organization. These books take time to make, and go on a
first come basis.

Currently:

I currently have many old samples and some newer samples, I am also (like i mentioned) willing to work something out in exchange for old rug scraps and fragments (pictures of both sides in sunlight, careful of the glare). I will include rugs from original weaving countries (Iran, Afghanistan, Russian (caucas), Turkey, and some reproduction. I will also include examples of flatweaves (needlepoints, kilims, soumacks, and aubussans).

Of the Persian, Turkish, Russian, and Afghans, there are several individual cities/villages/and tribes within these 4 countries that I would like to focus on in the binder. Some of which have changed drasticly in the past 100 years, some are more traditional than others, but those four countries are very important and nearly always the best investment, original art, and least comercial, but there are a few exceptions to every rule.

I will cover some weavings from reproductive countries, esp. pre-communist china, and I will also include at least a few from the reproductive countries ,because it will help you identify them when you run across a tricky reproductive peice, by reconizing the quality and climate which it came from, the type of weave, and the dyes used.

Since these binders are not all the same I can point out certain features of samples such as common sizes and colors, how fine the weave is (only compared to another of it's origin), even common retail prices (usually price X size squared + any rare features ). Remember I am always on the look for samples. Here is the pricelist:

(you can request certain materials and/or focus to customize your binder, but I need prior notice to find some hard-to-find/and rare pieces of samples. Feel free to contact me about it.)

Basic Binder will contain :

-Several samples from 4 original weaving countries including popular cities/ villages/ and tribes. samples will be from different age groups: new (1-50) semi antique (50-100) and antique (100+). With side-notes on each. (I have very few samples over 200+ yrs old)

-Several samples from reproductive countries (mostly newer ones, older ones are rarely sought after) including older pre-communist chinese . With side-notes on each.

-Samples covering the flatweaves (kilim, soumack, aubussan, needlepoint). Focused on newer pieces, majority is done in reproductive countries.

-Samples of machine made rugs -no more than 2, unless requested, because they are not worth focusing on, but it will serve to show them for what they are.

-Hand-done example of proper securing, overcasting, also proper cleaning and repair info will be included also(I have been doing cleaning, repairs, and restorations for over 5 years) . I can also include tips on care, interior design tips from K. Crecelius (recomended), and some pages from my book ( No Charge)

Total charge for basic binder: $350.00

I hope to have my web-site up soon, I will notify you when it is, I will have good links and resources, too. Feel free to mail me any questions, comments, or info on more rug samples. I hope this will shine some light on the unscrupulous dealers, gets rid of the ever going-out-of-buisness sales, and helps educate people about rugs.

Thank you,

-Jon S.
