Poem to Fran from Chas

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
***So, how did Fran and Chas meet? Chas was attending Purdue University in Lafayette, Indiana; English major. Fran was visiting her cousin Bill Foresman in West Lafayette, Indiana. Bill and Chas had become very good friends while both attending Purdue. And, they remained friends throughout their lives. Fran thought Chas was a smart aleck and she didn't really like him very much at first. However, the three of them began doing things together. Eventually, Chas and Fran dated. In fact, they dated off and on for five years or so before they married December 24, 1934, in Greensburg, Indiana, by a Justice of the Peace. The story goes that Chas asked Fran on the spare or the joyous of the moment, looked for the Justice of the Peace finding him "celebrating" Christmas Eve in a local tavern. They brought him to Chas' parent's home where the wedding ceremony took place. They honeymooned in Batesville, Indiana, but were actually trying to drive to Cincinnati but a severe snow storm had come down on the area. It wasn't for another 8 years before they had their first child, a son, Charles Blaine Williams III. And, then two years later, a daughter, Martha Jane.***
The photo below is of Martha L. Foresman daughter of Robert L. and Frances Adaline Foresman. She is sister of Mary Foresman Foster and Aunt of Frances Foster Williams. Matha L. Foresman was a school teacher but she quit teaching inorder to raise her niece, Frances Bennett Foster. Martha's sister Mary H. Foresman Foster died several weeks after giving birth to Frances. So Frances's Aunt Martha whom she called Aunty took on the love, care and responsability of raising her niece. She had a two story Victorian style home in Indianapolis, Indiana, (Pennyslvania Avenue, the home no longer exists)and made it into a boarding home with several boarders. This was her main income along with the help of her brother-in-law Thomas Sylvester (Ves) Foster, Frances' Father. Thomas Sylvester Foster felt he could not raise Frances on his own, as a farmer, and gave full custody to Martha.
The following is from a newspaper article written by Charles B. Williams (Jr.) of his Father-in-law Thomas Sylvester Foster:
Thomas Sylvester Foster was born in Mazon, Illinois, October4,1869, and died in Kokomo,Indiana, on May 7, 1956. He was the son of George Washington and Ociana (Moyer) Foster, and was the fifth child of a family of seven children. When he was six years old he moved with his parents to Benton County, on a farm near Raub, Indiana. Four years later they moved to Talbot, Indiana on a farm owned by his father.
At the age of thirty-three, he was married to May Foresman. To this reunion, two daughters were born, Martha F. and Frances B. His wife, May, preceeded him in death in July,1909 and daughter Martha passed away in 1946. On March 1, 1922, he went to Danville, Illinois. He was married to Orah (Thomas) Wagner of Danville, Illinois, formerly of Georgetown, Indiana, on July 26, 1924. They moved to Covington, Indiana, in 1933.
On October 13, 1929, he was born into God's Kingdom and left the testimony that he was wonderfully converted and that this he knew that once he was dead but now is alive. He joined Beulah Mission in Danville, Illinois, 820 N. Bowman Ave.
After coming to Kokomo in 1946, he united with Fairlawn United Brethren Church where he remained faithful till death.
He is survived by his wife Orah, a daughter Frances Williams of Cincinnati, Ohio, three step-sons Sheridan Wagner of Kokomo, Harry and Sheldon Wagner of Detroit, Michigan, one sister Ida Nace of Michigan, other relatives and many friends.
