Review-Mario&Luigi: Super Star Saga
Mario & Luigi
Super Star Saga
by Shanko Sephro (Jose R.)
This game has a funny story, peaches voice has been taken and its up to you to go take it back. You will lead Mario and Luigi through this story, of course Luigi doesn’t plan on going but he goes with them anyway (you will find out when you play it, I like this game because Mario and Luigi never talk, just make hand movements and speech bubbles with pictures, the story turns into a kind of different story as you go but its pretty much the same, now lets talk about the game play and all that nice stuff. This game is truly one of the great RPG games for the Game Boy Advance, it has a good and easy style, like any other normal RPG, you walk around like a normal RPG, you bump into an enemy, you go into a battle screen, what’s different about this game is no more annoying random battles when you step on a patch of grass or something, this on has real, old school Mario enemies walking around, so when you bump into one you go into battle mode, you can even jump on the monster before going into battle, the battle starts out with the enemy taking damage, although you can’t do this with all of the monsters it gives you an upper hand at the game play in battle mode, that means you start out first instead of the monster going first because its speed is higher. You learn different things in this game, like new battle moves, and more brother attacks, the normal attacks, which are called solo attacks, are easy to perform, you choose the one you want to use, hit a and it does it, you can gain extra points if you hit the a button again at the right time, that is of course if you are Mario, if you are Luigi then you use the b button, and that’s just for the jump attack, which is one of the other attacks you will be learning. Then you have Brother moves, which take up brother points, the number of points that it takes up is the setting that it is on, the less points it takes, the harder it is to perform, like if you lowered it a level then it would lower the points it takes and it would take off the button icons that pop up that tell you what to push, the next one would take off slow motion, and so on. To perform Brother moves you have to hit the buttons at the right time (when Mario has a red deal around him hit a) so when it says to hit the a button you do it, and when it says to hit the b button (when Luigi has a green deal around him hit the b button), once you turn off the button icons you will have to relay on your mind to remembering the timing or just keep a close eye on Mario and Luigi, to catch them when they have a deal around them. When not in battle mode you walk around with Luigi behind Mario or Mario behind Luigi, having which character you have in back and which character you have in front is not just who you like best its what abilities they can do, with Luigi in back, he can jump on Mario and do a high jump, he can also bang Mario with his hammer and make him into Mini Mario, with Mario in back, Mario can jump on Luigi and spin around making a Spin Jump, which lets you go farther (if you didn’t figure it out by the name) you can also slam Luigi with the hammer and burry him under ground where he can do different things, of course you have to control both Mario and Luigi, what I was hoping for was the ability to link up with a buddy and you both play, one as Mario and the other as Luigi, but they didn’t have that, but to make up for it they added the classic Mario Bros. Game to it, like all their other Game Boy Mario games, of course this has the multi player feature. Now back to the Super Star Saga, Mario and Luigi take a suit case along which holds all their stuff, clothes, items, map, and of course their passports you can buy more clothes and get pendants, which increase your stats. The only problem with this game is the fact that if your enemies do not dodge, or do anything when you are attacking, same attack, same result. This game has everything an RPG game and more, if you are into Mario and Luigi, and RPG’s then you are going to love this game! I think anyone else would love it too! So Mario and Luigi gets a 8 out of 10!
