What's Going On?

The festival season has arrived and we are celebrating in style here at Sense of Sound, with lots of new courses and live performances to tell you about.

First of all CONGRATULATIONS! to our very own Juliet Russell for the triumphant launch of her E.P. in London on 25th July. It was a wonderfully musical, successful and enjoyable evening with Juliet and Jennifer both delivering breathtaking performances to a captivated audience.

In case you don't already know, the fabulous Sense of Sound Choir has been chosen to go through to the finals of the BBC Radio 3 Choir of the Year Award which will take place in November. This is an absolutely amazing achievement so a HUGE well done and keep up the good work to everybody involved.

Courses

We are delighted to announce that we now have start dates for the new Choir Performance Courses in both Liverpool and London.

The Sense of Sound Choir Performance Course is challenging and enjoyable. It provides an exploration of musical styles from African to contemporary pop, soul and R-n-B through A CAPPELLA group singing.

The course is suitable for those with some experience of singing or those who have completed our Singing for Beginners course.

If you are London based, the course begins on 26th September and Liverpool workshops start on 4th October. Come along!!!

Our next Singing for Beginners Course has also been pencilled in for two linked Saturday workshops on 23rd and 30th September, details to be confirmed. This is a brilliant way of getting to grips with the basics of singing and harmonising and is just a great way to relax and have fun!

We are also thrilled to reveal that we will be running a Young Singers Development Course. This project is targeted at 16-18 year olds outside of the formal education system and will explore vocal techniques, songwriting and performance skills through a series of workshops to develop 12-15 young people as performing artists. It’s going to be wonderful!

The Ones to Watch…

As we mentioned before, we have a few dates for your diary:

On August 19th, the fantastic Juliet Russell will be performing at the Pink Festival in Cambridge. Juliet will be gracing the stage in the Pink Lounge at 4.40pm and we strongly recommend you go take a listen.

Jennifer John has some busy times ahead starting with the opening performance of the famous Mathew Street Festival alongside the delightful Thomas Lang and the Philharmonic Orchestra on August 25.

On 28th August, Jennifer will be showing Scotland what she is all about with a performance at the Spiegeltent in Edinburgh @ 6pm alongside the lovely Emily Barden.

Jennifer will also be treading the boards of the Unity Theatre as a star of a production called 'Ornamental Happiness' in September. The show runs from 12th-16th September and is directed by Rose English…the legend of London stage and the circus world!

Ornamental Happiness is the first part of her major new production which will be presented in its entirety in 2008 so don’t miss this amazing opportunity to these two extraordinary women at work!
