New Exhibition of Work
By Local Painters
1 December 2003 – 18 January 2004

Urban Coffee Lounge,
349 Smithdown Road
Liverpool L15

FITSOSCRENANIA!…

A enthusiastic and cheerful throng of artists, their peers, art-lovers and friends crowded the Urban Coffee Lounge on Smithdown Road, Liverpool, last night (5/12/03), the venue for the private view occasion of their first exhibition by this newly-formed art group: L.issue.
Art work on display included the work of Terry Kane, who was invited to join the exhibition by Lis and Sue, the initial thinking behind the project.
“We plan to have more exhibitions in the future during the coming year, and we’re looking forward to this new phase at this local and popular venue,” explained Sue Lucine, an artist in her own right who has been involved in many previous exhibitions of her own work.
“In February,” she revealed to MAM, “we’re scheduling the work of Sue Milburn.” (More on this at a later date. –Ed.)
Lis, who co-manages the exhibition at the Urban Coffee Lounge, was previously associated with Creative LETS.

Barcelona Angel
Former Arts Council Setting Up Scheme artist, Lorraine Berry from Chorley, is having her installation Angel, originally produced at St Philips Church, Salford, installed at the former Chapel of Angels Convent - now a gallery in Barcelona.
The work uses laser marking and ultra-violet light to show the image of an angel onto matching floor tiles, laid over the original floor. Viewers trigger the lights as they walk across the floor.
Lorraine followed her period as a Setting Up Scheme artist with a course at City College, Manchester, exploring new technologies and their application to artistic practice. The Barcelona exhibition is the culmination of this course, and the exhibits from it will subsequently be shown in Manchester.

Exhibition Opportunity

For more details contact Kate, Tel. 07866 638159 Email: art@thecumbrianetwork.co.uk Send images of work to: 14b Angel Lane, Penrith, Cumbria CA11 7BP.
Developing the style of the street and drawing inspiration from the city. A 'work in progress' show for 2 talented Manchester artists, this is a unique opportunity to look behind the scenes of the artist's studio and see work at different stages of completion.
Deborah Steggel will be showing a selection of pieces, including a series of digitally printed collages using images from journeys to and from Manchester, Liverpool, London and Paris. She is also showing large format samples of printmaking work for an outside textile piece, and some initial research pieces of collage and photography.
Annette Cobley will be showing a series of canvasses inspired by graffiti collages and a series of graffiti-style stencils on clothing. The highly original images have been created using the technique of graffiti stencils, but depict traditional life drawing poses and show strong confident women.
Annette crosses over life drawing poses into stencils, which are then transferred onto women's clothing using sewing, printing or painting techniques and worn in the urban environment.
