Russian Hairless Cats
Hello, I am starting a cattery of "Donskoy" hairless cats from a pair of kittens I have just purchased from a very reputable breeder in Russia. The Russian breeder has been my mentor for the majority of this year and is teaching me how to become a professional breeder of the Donskoy cats right here in the USA. I am a member of TICA and have registered a cattery titled: "sphynxgodesses". My cattery will be based on the greek methodology theme based on the gods, "Athena" and "Zues". Zues (male) is pictured here at the top of this webpage at two months of age. He has beautiful green wedged emerald eyes that is sure to mystify all who lays eyes upon him! I will be posting more pictures as he grows. Athena (female) will have pictures posted as well on the gallery page. These two kittens will make quite a fantastic breeding pair and will produce a variety of colors. These Donskoy are purebred donskoy sphynx and are only bred with other Donskoy cats; they are not outcrossed with other breeds. The TICA registry is working on a class specifically for this pure Donskoy breed. Below is a brief description of the hairless cats, but a more detailed list can be obtained from me for the Donskoy breed specifically.
Standard:
Don Sphynx (Russian Hairless/Donskoy Sphynx/Don Bald Cat); not to be confused with the Canadian sphynx.
The Russian standard for the Donskoy Sphynx requires solid, medium size cats with a short, wedge shaped head, large ears, noticeable eyeballs and a flat forehead with numerous vertical wrinkles spreading in horizontal lines above the eyes. The whiskers range from thick and curly to snapped or absent. The toes are unusually long in appearance. The last 3 centimetres of the tail tip may be covered with soft, dense, close lying, slightly curly coat. Firm cats of medium size, solid, with strong bones, soft velvety and hot to the touch. The skin is describes as elastic and wrinkled on the head, neck, under the legs and in the groin. The texture of the Sphynx skin has been likened to a suede hot water bottle, a horse's warm muzzle or a heated chamois
