Contra-BAND BIOGRAPHY
Since 1999 Contraband, a Rhode Island-style reggae band has been taking the Ocean State by storm. Contrabands's unique style of original roots-reggae music, which is described by song writer/rhythm guitarist Alex MacGregor as "combining various elements of hip-hop, spoken work, and rock into original root- reggae music" has helped the band establish a diverse and loyal fan base.
Contraband has gained the reputation of being a band of party animals both on and off the stage; often playing the Rohode Island party scene during the summer tourist season. Contraband has played with such acts as The Slip, Bad Fish, and Dub Squad. Contraband has performed in venues all over the Southern Rhode Island, Block Isand and Providence.
The Band consists of songwriter/rythm Guitarist :Alex "sandy" MacGregor, Bass/Lead vocals/songwriter Chris Burke, Drums: Joel Kovacks, and Lead Guitarist Steven "Brother Lee".
Contraband will often times feature new Rhode Island talent at their live shows, including rappers and female back up vocals.
Contraband has always been a big advocate of living the party life and playing the party music. Often times spending ernings entirly on marijuana.
