I guess there come a time in everybody's life when they decide to give up oneÕs favorite possession. I first saw my P210 in 1971, Redwood City, California. The engine had been burned up by its owner. It was for sale as is. They couldnt even find the key when I showed up to buy the car. I found an engine and transmission for sale in the want adds. It was a B18, complete with transmission etc., out of a wrecked 1965, 544 sport. I installed the engine and converted the electrical to 12V. Unfortunately, I missed the Gas gauge, it has never been the same. I have driven this car ever since. From Seattle Washington to San Diego, East to Barstow. I have never run out of gas, never broken down on the road, never had a flat tire. I had a trailer hitch installed in 1974, works fine. I have lived in the San Francisco Bay Area all my life and, in the 70s, always stopped for those who had their thumbs out. So if anyone thinks that this is the Volvo that stopped for them, it could be. Life was good in Alameda, Marin, San Mateo, Santa Clara, San Francisco, Napa, Sonoma Counties. But eventually things do break down, so in 1995 I finally had to rebuild the engine, transmission, rear end, brake system, front end, rear/front suspension, new radiator. Generator and starter were Òre-woundÓ, for real, here in Livermore Ca. Everything. The engine was balanced, blue printed. Sounds real cool. What couldnÕt be rebuild was replaced, or was that what couldnÕt be replaced was rebuilt. It has been a while, but I do have all of the receipts. All work was done locally, in Contra Costa, Alameda County. Thank you SvenssonÕs Volvo, Richmond Ca. Thank you Gallant Racing, Oakland Ca. Since then the car has spent most of itÕs time in the garage. Not a good thing for a car, they really need to be driven. If you look at most of the other Volvos in the slide-show you may notice that my Duett has roll down windows for the passengers. Is this a big deal or what? The person who buys this car needs to know that nothing less than a complete, off frame rebuild, is necessary. You will have to hot dip the car body to get all the rust and bondo off the body, no exceptions. There is rust, no head liner, body cracks, bondo, faded paint. I will post pictures but this cars is being sold Òas isÓ. If you are on the West Coast of the United States, I will drive it to you. You can have all of my ÒnewÓ parts and old ones. The molding for the window, except the rear passengerÕs roll down window, are still in the box. The padded dash, the frames for the head liner, the original hub caps and rims. The wheels on there now were custom build by Stockton Wheels so I could run these P205/75 15 tires. Makes it look like an SUV, or as big as one. The engine has lots of power, your top speed will bury the speedometer and will be limited by the size of your privates. The second gear syncro needs to be replaced, so double shift from neutral and when coming from first to second, pause & go easy. Dont try to stick it.
If you would like to see this Volvo P210 Duett being used as the heros escape vehicle then watch the movie; Smilla's Sense of Snow.
Send me you email address and I will let you know when it will be sold off. I will want to know some thing about you and your plans, no hot rods here. I want to find my Volvo a good home. Contact me at LuieLuie@xmail.net.
Thanks Louis B.
