Lucy Aponte Arts
Born in Spanish Harlem, New York and raised in The Bronx, New York, by her paternal grandmother, Lucia Benedetty Aponte, from the age of seven.
A visual, literary, performance artist, speaker, advocate for children, creator of an innovative literacy tool for children beginning in the preschool years, instructing artist and active leader in her Bronx Community, as well as a business woman.
Her work has been featured in Latina Magazine's, web site, "Spotlight of the Week; Bronx Cable T. V.'s Bronx Magazine with host, Derek Woods, Bronx Talk, with host, Gary Axelbank,
Issues of the Day, with host, Diana Cruz. Her service to her community has been featured in the Daily News, Bronx Time News and the Village Voice.
Ms. Aponte credits her grandmother, whom she called "Mama,"for inspiring her love of art and honors her memory with her work. She also gives credit to those who raised her to love humanity.
Ms. Aponte's work is described as whimsical, touching and tender. "My work speaks to the beauty, fragility and delicateness of the Child. Through this work I ask that you care enough to protect a child in pain and that you dare to act and speak on their behalf.
