LOFTIER LEARNING LITERACY

Loftier Learning Literacy is a company that originated in Wetaskiwin, Alberta by a retired Canadian Navy man. Home base is now Sooke, BC. The mandate of this learning guild is to break the cycle of poverty by providing training to those who want to work with a successful program in reading and comprehension for struggling students. Also, students who require the rehabilitation should email loftier@telus.net in order to secure webcam lessons (21 lessons complete the program for a modest fee.

Loftier Learning Literacy has a new thrust that was created by funding from ADRA Canada (visit www.adra.org) and provides a program whereby trainers prepare Certified Reading Instructors that are enabled to work in any community, town, or city. The trainers are called Certified Reading Therapists. Seniors who seek to be part of the special train the trainer program should ask for a senior's rate. Just like other trainers, they charge a fee when preparing Certified Reading Instructors to work in communities across Canada. This work functions as a part-time job for them with great personal rewards.

How does a person become a Certified Reading Instructor? It's a three part program and may be completed by a tradesperson or professional provided there is no prison record and good references. First, there are 13 modules to complete by distance education. These are mailed to you in a binder. Along with these modules is a set of 21 lessons of visual-spatial appeal to students who may have learning problems such as dyslexia. Since the reading lag and dyslexic students think faster from the visual-spatial intelligence (Taylor and Benziger), a program has been devised to rehabilitate their reading and comprehension using methods of visual-spatial appeal. For example, symbols that cue decoding principles, coloured pictures that cue sound, and a two-part word division for word attack, plus a chance for the student to actually be the teacher are part of the strategies that work. When these strategies are used, the climb in word attack is from two to four (and more for many students) grades in the 21-lesson delivery time! This is very fast. Statistics are available for you to view. Email loftier@telus.net

They may be taught in a group provided that there are not more than two grades between them.
