ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Marney Schorr has been drawing and painting for seventeen years and works predominantly in oils and oil pastel. She has a Bachelor's degree in Visual Art from Empire State College and is currently pursuing her Masters in Clinical Art Therapy at L.I. University C.W. Post, where she served as a graduate assistant for Dr. Christine Kerr, ATR-BC, LCAT, director.
Marney's works, including an extensive series of Self Portraits, Nudes, Treescapes, and Scenes from a Hospital, have been exhibited in four solo shows and ten group shows on Long Island. Her art has been published in The Observer, Huntington Life and NAC News. In 2006, she won Second Place for her poster design for the LI Festival and Walk for Mental Health.
Marney volunteers art therapy services at Long Island Cancer and Wellness Center in Bayshore, New York. She is also on the Consumer Advisory Board at Pederson Krag Center where she volunteers her services for the mentally ill, and where her donated art works can be viewed. Under the tutelage of Susan Paradise Goodman, ATR-BC, she volunteers at the L.I. Head Injury Association providing art therapy services for clients with traumatic brain injury.
In addition to fine art, Marney is an avid writer. She is the author of four contemporary novels and several journals of poetry.
Marney is a member of the American Art Therapy Association, Huntington Arts Council, the Northport Arts Coalition, Art League of Long Island, Smithtown Arts Council and Brookhaven Humanities and Arts Council, as well as Heckscher and Nassau County Museums and the Center for Intuit and Outside Art in Chicago.
Marney's current practice includes the following:
- art retreats, workshops and programs
- volunteer services including art therapy
- advocacy for the arts
