CLASSIC YOGA
These classes are suitable for all fitness levels and all levels of yoga experience, beginners are very welcome. The classes are challenging at times but the postures are performed more slowly than the dynamic flow class and modifications are given where necessary. Classic Yoga is effective for increasing flexibility, muscle tone and strength, helping to combat stress and improve wellbeing.
DYNAMIC FLOW YOGA
These classes are suitable for those with a reasonable fitness level since the postures are challenging and flow dynamically from one to the next. Beginners are very welcome. Dynamic Flow Yoga is effective for increasing flexibility, increasing muscle tone and strength, burning fat and helping to combat stress and improve wellbeing.
PREGNANCY YOGA
These classes offer a very different style of yoga tailored for the pregnant body. In pregnancy the body produces Relaxin, a hormone which makes joints more supple and it is important not to overstretch the joints at this time. Pregnancy yoga is designed to maximise health and wellbeing and to provide techniques to help to adapt to the changes taking place in the body and to prepare for birth. Yoga is well known for providing increased body sensitivity which helps women to have more intuitive births.
VENUE
Castle Lower School, MK40 3EP is on Goldington Road on the right hand side as you approach from the town centre, beyond Bedford Blues Rugby Club, between Bower St and Denmark St. The classes are in a beautiful Victorian hall with a lovely wooden floor and there is a garden area where we can work in the summer. Parking is available at the school.

MY YOGA BACKGROUND
I started practising yoga in November 2001 and immediately became passionate about it to the extent that when we went on holiday shortly afterwards, the first thing I did was look for yoga classes. I have tried as many different yoga styles as I have been able to find and have particularly enjoyed Ashtanga, Iyengar, Anusara and Integrative Yoga Therapy. My teacher training was a 200 hour Yoga Alliance approved course with Integrative Yoga Therapy in the States. I have also completed the first year of the British Wheel of Yoga course, attended a teacher training with John Friend, founder of Anusara yoga and completed two weeks training with Godfrey Devereux, founder of Dynamic Yoga. In 2003 I gave up my business career to focus on my passion for yoga and alternative therapy and have since taught yoga for two years and travelled to India to study yoga philosophy with Ramesh Balsekar and Swami Dharmananda of Ved Niketan Ashram, Rishikesh. I also spent two weeks at the Kaivalyadhama Yoga Institute in Lonavla which focusses on using yoga for healing. I am currently studying yoga therapy with the Yoga Biomedical Trust in London, due to qualify in 2008. I studied pregnancy yoga with Francoise Freedman of Birthlight.
THE BENEFITS OF YOGA
I believe yoga is one of the most sophisticated movement forms available for the human body. Unlike conventional exercise which tends to tone muscles while shortening them, which creates less flexibility, yoga tones muscles while lengthening them, increasing flexibility. What's more yoga puts joints and muscles through their full range of movement (which normal daily living doesn't do) giving us much greater freedom to move and maximising the health of our joints. With regular practice yoga can effectively counteract the effects of ageing. Regular dynamic yoga practice not only tones bodies but also burns fat, leading to the so-called "yoga body"! Not only does yoga work the "outside" but different yoga postures are designed to massage different internal organs and keep them functioning well and yoga can make a real difference to "inside" health. Yogic breathing helps to absorb more oxygen and remove more waste products, which, among many other things, boosts our immune system. What's more yoga helps to reduce stress, helps us to relax and sleep better, improve our mental focus and feel better about life.
