As a result of 9/11 and the recent outsourcing of many American jobs, many of us have realized that we need to learn more about the countries and people of South Asia. As I'm typing these words, one of the top 10 "guides" on Amazon.com is a guide for people who want to "Know More About India."
Despite the facts above, many individuals and libraries still don't own any or enough South Asian-related materials. Perhaps they just don't know where to begin finding them; I must admit the materials are scarce.
However, that's where this website can help, in assocation with Amazon.com...
It lists selected South Asian-related materials for everyone, age 5 to 105. For each age group listed below, the materials cover the following topics:
1) Books that are set in South Asian countries (India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Nepal),
2) Books about South Asian religions and philosophies,
3) South Asian folktales that impart cultural values,
4) Books about the South Asian immigrant experience, and
5) Books that deal with issues faced by the South Asian-American community (including: domestic violence, child abuse, sexual abuse, divorce, cultural gaps, prejudice and racial discrimination, general social skills development, and a difficulty being heard).

In times like these, we need to arm ourselves with awareness and reach out with peace and understanding, whether it's to ourselves or to others. We need to teach our children to do the same because after all, they are our future.
