Dr YAZHOU (first name) LEI (last name) currently is Electrical Engineering Manager with Wind Prospect Ireland Ltd, a wind farm development, engineering and project management company based in Dublin City, the capital of Republic of Ireland.

Dr Lei specilises in the power system planning, wind turbine modelling with PSS/E and wind farm electrical engineering.

Before joining Wind Prospect, Dr Lei worked with ESBI, the engineering and consultancy arm of Ireland's state power company ESB. He was in charge of all PSS/E studies in a Bahrain 2008 ~ 2011 transmission network planning project.

Prior to that, Dr Lei worked with Airtricity, a world leading wind farm development company, as senior electrical engineer. His main roles include electrical lead for wind farm contruction projects, wind farm grid connection management and liaision with grid companies in the UK and Ireland, technical supports to the wind farm operations and wind turbine procurements team.

Dr Lei also spent some time working with the Irish Transmission System Operator, EirGrid, as wind turbine modelling specialist. 2004 saw a unprecedentedly fast pace forward for Ireland's wind energy industry, with more than 500 MW wind farms in the queue waiting to connect atop of existing 300MW wind farms in a 4,000MW peak load system. For fear of the blackouts of Northern America and European electricity networks in 2003 happening in Ireland, EirGrid announced to halt processing wind farms grid connection temporarily.

For the first time in the world, all manufacturers were required to provide PSS/E compatible models for their wind turbines to carry out system wide dynamic studies, and identify possible impacts of high level penetration wind power on the Irish electricity networks. Dr Lei has tested all types of major wind turbines in the then wind market, such as Vestas, Nordex, Gamesa, Bonus, Enercon, GE, NEG-Micon, DeWind, etc.

Before that, Dr Lei worked with Department of Electric & Electronic Engineering, University College Cork (UCC), National University of Ireland, as post-doctoral research fellow. His research project, Advanced Wind Turbine Modelling & Control, was co-funded by ESB and Enterprise Ireland. He has developed a generic model for the fixed-speed induction generator wind turbines and a generic model for the variable-speed doubly fed induction generator wind turbines using PSS/E.

Dr Lei got his Ph.D. from Wind Energy Research Laboratory, Electric Power Research Institute of China in 2001. His PhD work was about the planning strategy and methodology for the power system with large scale wind farm integration. During his Ph.D. research period, Dr Lei visited many wind farms in China, such as Huitengxile, Zhurihe, Xilinhot in Inner Mongolia, Nan'ao in Guangdong, Dongfang in Hainan, Jinzhou, Xianrendao in Liaoning, etc. Such experiences gave him a lot of first-hand materials about the Chinese wind energy market and chances to make friends with the people working on the frontlines of wind sector.

After graduating with the Ph.D., he worked for the Power System Analysis Division at China EPRI, on a Three Gorge Hydro Power Plant grid connection feasibility study project.

Dr Lei also holds a Bachelor degree and a Master degree from Northeast China Institute of Electric Power in the electrical power system engineering discipline.
