Lane Frost
Lane Frost was a bull rider. He was born on October 12,1963 in LaJunta, Colorado. His parents are Clyde and Elsie Frost.Lane was 5 feet, 11 inches and 145 pounds. Lane and his family moved to Lane,Oklahoma in 1977.Lane took interest in rodeo when he was three years old and after they moved to Oklahoma Lane countinued to learn riding techniques from his father and riding legend Freckles Brown.
Lane was Bull Riding Champion at the National High School Rodeo Finals in 1981. Lane got full membership into the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association in 1983 when he was only 19.He also got an award called the "Tough Luck" award for his effort at the "Super Bull" competition in Del Rio,Texas.
Lane and Kellie Kyle got married in 185 on January 5. Lane and Kellie meet at the National High School Rodeo. Kellie was not at Cheyenne the day that Lane was killed. She got remarried in 1993.
Lane's accomplishments where that he qualified 5 times in Bull Riding for in NFR in 1984-1988,he won 1987 Bull Riding World Champion, he was the 1986 NFR Average Winner in Bullriding with 678 points and he rode 9 out of 10 bulls, Prarie Circuit Bull Riding Champion in 1983, Runner-up for Bull Rider rookie of the year in 1983, Winston Tour Bull Riding Average Winner in 1986,Texas Circuit Bull Riding Champion in 1987 and was the first cowboy to ride Red Rock who was previously unridden in 309 outings.Lane was among the top 15 bull riders for 5 consecutive years until his death.Lane's lifetime PRCA earnings was $489,736.
Lane Frost was killed on July 30,1989 at Cheyenne Frontier Days in Cheyenne,Wyoming. Lane completed his ride with an 85 which put him in third spot to win. Lane was hit in the back with the bull's horn afte dismounting it and the bull turned on .Tuff Hedeman,(one of Lane's friends)was with Lane at the hospital and was the one who had to inform Kellie and his parents of what happened to Lane. Lane is buried in Mount Olivet Cemetry in Hugo,Oklahoma right next to his old hero Freckles Brown.
Lane will be remembered by many those who where close to him and knew him.I am sure that he was an inspiration to many and that he'll be remembered for the kind of person he was and all of his many accomplishments.Lane will always remain close to everybody's hearts who knew him well.
