Three properties just outside the village of Notre Dame du Touchet close to Mortain and St Hilaire du Harcouet on the Normandy / Brittany borders.
Ideally located for exploring both Normandy and Brittany. Clean deserted sandy beaches about half an hours drive, exellent fishing all around the area and four golf courses easily accessible. The D day beaches are about 90 minutes away.
Access from the ferries is easy with St Malo (60 miles) being about one hours drive, Cherbourg (98 miles) two hours , Caen (80 miles) one and a half hours and Le Havre about two hours away.
Mont St Michel is about half an hours drive, it does get quite busy and an early start is reccommended. Many lovely clean and quiet beaches up the west coast of the peninsular.
Many lovely walks in the area, several simple theme parks for children and a genuine old countryside location with a wide variety of wildlife including many species of birds (Kingfishers by the stream), rabbits, badgers in the next field and a family of Red Squirrels ( I have been trying to get a photo of them eating the rosehips on the Cottage but failed so far).
The houses are situated at the end of a long private road about a mile outside the village.Set on the edge of a quiet and peacefull valley they enjoy a peacefull and tranquil location ideal for a relaxing holiday. The children (and adults) can really be free to run around and make as much noise as you like. A shared pool system is also available with a smaller baby/learning pool with a solar panel/ramp leading down to the main pool 5m X 10m in size.
THE FARMHOUSE:- A big house with large well equiped kitchen, range gas cooker (electric grill and oven), fridge freezer, microwave, dish washer and washing machine etc.The kitchen is being refitted during this winter(08)to give even more workspace and storage as we do seem have larger party`s taking all three houses and the farmhouse becomes the centre of operations. Also a seperate utility area will be created for the water heater, washing machine and a downstairs toilet so children playing in the pools do not have to run upstairs to use a toilet. Dining area with large table seating 8-10, there is enough room to put another table in length ways to accomadate larger numbers when perhaps two or more houses are booked with friends or family wishing to eat together. Lounge area with adequate seating including a settee bed woodburning stove etc.satellite TV, DVD etc.For 2007 season we are improving the upstairs to create two family rooms. One with a double and bunks and a shower room with toilet etc., and one with a double and a single which has a pull out single bed under (limits floor area obviously) and a bathroom with toilet etc.
A further double room (two singles) has toilet and washbasin.
POOLSIDE APARTMENT:- Restored in 2005. Ground floor family bedroom with one double bed and bunk beds and bathroom, well equiped kitchen, dining area and lounge with french windows opening out on to large balcony area with steps leading down to a small courtyard garden that opens out to the lawned area. Gallery with wonderfull views out over the valley and two more ensuite bedrooms one with double bed and one with two singles.Toilet and "wetroom" shower with vanity unit in each bedroom.
COTTAGE (our favourite):- Situated by a wildflower meadow the cottage has a well equiped kitchen, utility room with downstairs toilet and washing machine. Lounge dining area with woodburner and french windows out onto a large patio area.Family bedroom with double bed and single chair bed, double bedroom with vanity unit, small bedroom with two small single beds.Seperate toilet. Bath/Shower room with washbasin. The Cottage is some distance away from the Farmhouse set in a lower field and gives a little more privacy if required i.e. when I want to retreat from my grandchildren.Parking for two cars without having to shuffle!.
