True Colors

PRECIOUS JEWEL

While others are throwing caution to the winds
You, alone, remain cautious; testing the waters
before plunging in head first.
This cautious nature isn't found in people every day
It's like a rare and precious gem.

While others are complaining about their lot in life
You stand silent, defiant in your resolve to carry
your load alone without self-pity.
This strength of character is a rare and precious gift
Like a sparkling, perfect diamond.

While others are wishing for bigger, better things
You are accepting, content with the grass
on this side of the fence.
Seeing the bright side of things makes your eyes dance
Like a shimmering, dazzling emerald.

While others are busy putting blame elsewhere
You look to yourself, knowing that no one
can force you into a corner.
Realizing that your individuality is uncovered in the end
Like a genuine, precious ruby.

While others see only black clouds and rain
You see vibrant colors, knowing that behind
gray skies lies the rainbow.
Braving the storm for that glimpse of color
Like a glittering, splash of opal.

TRUE BLUE

I may be laughing merrily on the outside
When inside, I'm silently crying
But if you were to guess this
I'd deny it until tears streamed down my face

I may act as if I feel good inside and out
Even though I am severely hurting
But if I caught you reading me
I'd grin until I could bear it no longer

I may stand up straight and tall on the outside
When inside, I'm an insecure child
But if you were to confront me
I'd openly defy you in a screaming fit of temper

I may act cool and confident on the outside
When inside, I'm actually shaking
But if you were to challenge me
I'd argue until I came completely unraveled

I may portray only great intelligence
When inside, I feel so dumb
But if you were to question me
I'd make you look ignorant with stupid answers

I may pretend not to care what you think
When inside, it's all that matters
But if you were to flatter me
I would still deny you...all the way

DADDY

When I think back to my childhood years
Whether I was happy, or mad, or in tears
Whatever the occasion, whatever my fears
You always were near
You always came through

When I look back through teenage eyes
Whether I told the truth, or whether I lied
Whatever I did, whatever I tried
Your love never died
You always came through

When I think back to the many times
When I was hurting and in a bind
My troubles laying heavy on my mind
You were easy to find
You always came through

I know your love will always last
Whether in present, or future, or past
An unending love in Christ so vast
Your anchor is cast
You'll always come through

MOTHER OF MINE

She's kind of special, especially kind
A wonderful person, this mother of mine

Her smile is genuine, she's generous too
Eagerly spending her time with you

She's a great friend, and friendly to all
Helping you gladly whenever you call

Her talents are many, many ways has she shown
Her love and compassion by deeds she has done

She's a special teacher, teaching many things
By the way that she lives for Jesus, her King

Yes, she's kind of special, and one-of-a-kind
I love her dearly, this mother of mine

THIS AND THAT

Saint and sinner, good and bad
Moral and immoral, happy and sad

Simple and complex, irrational and sound
Patient and impatient, free and bound

Smooth and rough, satisfied and not
Serious and silly, cold and hot

Friend and foe, shy and bold
Sweet and sassy, young and old

Certain and unsure, dependent and alone
Independent and needy, present and gone

Innocent and wanton, tame and wild
Honest and dishonest, both woman and child

SOLID ROCKS
Only the strongest of rocks can support us when we are weak. The solid rock is that rock because it will never let us fall. Its very solidness strengthens us as we lean upon it. What a comfort to know we have such a strong force to comfort us and to brace us. A solid rock is used as a stronghold, for protection, as a stepping stone, etc....

THE CORNERSTONE (Grandpa)
This special rock is one that has stood the test of time. The one that doesn't crumble into a million pieces when faced with the fiercest destructive obstacles. He becomes the cornerstone because of his great staying power in the face of adversity. He will be remembered for his strength of character long after he's gone, because in truth, he never really leaves....but has settled firmly within our hearts.

ROCK STEADY
A steady rock will not shift with the winds of change but will remain standing strong and unmovable for all to see and admire. Even when pushed and prodded by evil doers, he still prevails, remaining unshakable, tightly anchored and stedfast. Though he will never win a popularity contest, he is content with the knowledge that he is standing firmly on solid ground and will, one day, receive his reward.

SMOOTH AS A STONE
A smooth rock is a peacemaker and is always smoothing things over so those around him can live in peace and harmony. Just as a smooth stone happily skips across the water, so does this rock happily go this way and that, gliding around and encouraging others to keep their heads above the water. He is often found settling a dispute and is so gifted with this ability that few even realize the part he has played in it, until after the fact. No doubt about it, he makes people's lives run a little bit smoother. He is rarely rough around the edges, so no one is hurt by him or offended by what he has to say.

ROCK CANDY
This rock is very sweet and is easy to get along with as he goes about doing for others with a very humble attitude. Others are always glad to see him coming as his presence makes their day brighter and lightens their load. Many times he is there before he is even asked, doing whatever is necessary. Some people are so amazed by him that they mistrust his motives....looking for a string to be attached, but they never find one. This rock is so genuine that he sparkles in the sun as he goes merrily along from mission to mission.

THE STEPPING STONE
A stepping stone is a very strong, yet unassuming rock that boosts people on their way and keeps them from getting their feet wet as they go through life. Guiding others away from danger, he leaves a path for all to follow. He welcomes all that trod upon him no matter how heavy the footstep, for he has wound up in so many wrong places in the past, he is eager to help everyone else learn from his mistakes and urges people to step up, keep going, and to never look back.

THE ROLLING STONE
A rolling stone gathers no moss. He is on a roll, so to speak as he is always busy and on the move. He doesn't waste time talking about what he is going to do, but is busy doing it. He realizes that time is a precious commodity and he doesn't waste one minute of it. He is a fine example for us to follow as procrastination is not in his vocabulary. He will be remembered by many people for his actions of love, and just what an impact he had on others will not be fully realized until he is gone, for only then will his diligence be fully known. The rolling stone is an excellent role model, that is...if we can keep up with him. We would also have to learn how to take a little mud-slinging from time to time.

ROCK OF ALL AGES
This very approachable rock is ageless and timeless as his purpose in life is to meet people right where they are whatever their station in life. He is accepting of all people and is gifted with the ability of knowing just what to say to make each one feel at ease and loved. He is able to do this because he truly does have a great love for people, whether they be rich or poor, friendly or unfriendly, good or bad. People of all ages love him as he has such a way of relating to the young people and old, alike. He accepts people as they are and stays on his knees in prayer, letting God work in their heart in His own time. This rock has a timeless beauty that never fades as he remains young at heart well into his dotage.
