I SEE JESUS
I see Jesus walking here on earth
Performing miracles, giving new birth
Walking on water, calming the wind
Feeding the multitude, being their friend
I see Jesus healing the lame
Raising the dead by speaking their name
Telling the disciples again and again
That soon He would save the whole world from sin
I see Jesus in the garden so dear
Sweating profusely, knowing great fear
Then accepting God's will over His own
Knowing that only His blood could atone
I see Jesus as, finally, He stands
Telling His disciples, "the hour is at hand"
I see Judas betray Him with a kiss
He's handled roughly, but has done nothing amiss
I see My Jesus as He's being tried
Beaten, bloody, and then crucified
The nails driven in His hands, then his feet
Pain almost unbearable, yet bittersweet
I see Jesus on the cross all alone
So black with our sins, God couldn't look on
I see my Jesus, and I hear Him say, too
"Father, forgive them, they know not what they do"
I see Jesus as, slowly, He dies
I hear His mother as softly she cries
For she and His followers think it's the end
And they'll never see Jesus alive again
But then, I see my Jesus rise
Showing Thomas the hole in His side
Teaching the disciples more of His ways
Lingering with them around 40 days
I see Jesus as He rises to the sky
Preparing a place for His people on high
All the saved will, one day, go
To live with this Savior who loves us all so
I see Jesus pleading with the lost
"God will save you, just look to the cross"
But as you refuse Him, I hear Him sigh
"What more could I do for you, child, but die?"
IF ONLY...
If only I could reach the youth
If only I knew what to do
If only I knew what to say to them
To help them make it through
There are so many youth today
If only they would see
That by standing together as one for You
They could lead other friends to Thee
But they want so much to be "one of the crowd"
They'll do whatever it takes
That seems to be most important to them
They haven't considered the stakes
If only they could realize, Lord
That they can still be part of a crowd
A crowd that's full of laughter and love
One that stands tall and proud
But they're so worried about "their place"
They can't see what they need
And they push you to the back of their heart
No bigger than a mustard see
Oh Lord, I pray that one day soon
They'll have a change of heart
But until then, I cry for them
For that seed's growth won't start
Look Up
When I've fallen into a deep pit of despair
So powerfully black in its vast endlessness
And so very saturated with evils unbound
I begin to doubt that there's any hope at all
Until, at last, I look up and there you are
Reaching down for my hand
When I've strayed far from the beaten path
Straight into the thickness of a sin so welcoming
And so very accommodating of my needs
I begin to feel cut off from all feelings of guilt
Until I feel drops of warm rain and I look up
Receiving tears of love upon my face
When I've angrily rebelled against a love
So pure in its ability to accept the unacceptable
And so unequaled in strength by its utter completeness
I begin to bemoan what I foolishly killed by rejection
Until I hear my name being whispered and I look up
Incredibly amazed that your love never died
When I've openly defied attempts to save me
So blatantly choosing to go my own way instead
And so very dogmatic in my determination to remain
I begin to accept what my stubbornness has cost me
Until I look up and see light, radiant in its brilliance
Illuminating a path of escape that is mine...
YOU SNOOZE, YOU LOSE
Let me sleep, Lord, let me sleep
I do not even want to peek
My future, I don't want to see
So will you please just let me be
It's better to pretend I'm blind
To close my eyes, my heart, my mind
So when I hear about "The Son"
I won't have the urge to run
Denial is the only way
For me to make it through the day
As long as I can't see my need
I can go to sleep with ease
So please don't wake me up again
I don't want my peace to end.
And the Lord answered...
There isn't time for you to sleep
Look fully on your heart and weep
It's full of anguish, black with sin
If you don't look, Satan will win
Too much sleep will seal your fate
The peace you think you have is fake
If you continue with your eyes closed
There'll come a day when you won't doze
Forever and ever you'll be awake
At home with the devil in a fiery lake
You close your senses so you can't feel
But to me this picture is oh so real
As hard as you're begging for me to flee
I'm begging you to come to Me
Oh, dear sinner, please hed my call
And answer today by giving your all
Look on Me, give me your trust
Wake up sinner, please, you must!
These next two poems were written for one of my bestfriends who lost her little girl of 7 years due to a heart defect she had from birth. But God is good! Exactly one year to the day that Little Brooke was called home, (December 3, 2000) Hope was born...extremely healthy.
TO DIE IS NOT GOODBYE
God, did she really have to die
I wasn't ready to say "goodbye"
I know she had to go sometime
But this has really blown my mind
Just yesterday, I rocked her to sleep
Held her in my arms while she slept deep
Not long ago, I held her tight
Soothing her pain when things weren't right
I did my best to ease her fears
Again and again, year after year
It's hard to believe she's really gone
I feel so empty and all alone
Yet deep inside I know 'tis best
For she lives on at peace and rest
It's selfish of me to want her here
Now that she's with her Savior, so dear
Even now she walks down a golden street
Adoring the Savior, at His feet
Her life on earth was not in vain
For in my heart, seh'll always remain
And one day we'll be together again
For death, in Christ, is not the end
My memories of her will never die
Praise God! I don't have to say "goodbye"
MY SWEET BROOKE
I miss raining kisses on your sweet little neck
As you laughed merrily again and again
But my heart is made merry in knowing
You now laugh all the day long!
I miss the way you looked at me from the side
Like you knew a secret I didn't know
And my heart rejoices in knowing
You are now in the sacred place where you belong!
I miss the way you were constantly going to and fro
Like you were looking for somewhere to rest
And my heart is at ease in knowing
You've found your peace at last!
I miss the way you would come bounce on me
Giving me a great big hug as I held you close
Yet my heart is cheered with the knowledge
That the greatest One of all is holding you fast!
I miss the sound of your voice saying "Eat...Eat"
In that special way you had of declaring your wants
But my heart is full to overflowing with the surety
That you will never hunger again!
I miss the way you would use your teeth
Like you were leaving your mark upon the earth
And my heart is imprinted with the knowledge
That you did just that--and through my tears, I grin!
ANGELS AMONG US
I saw in passing just today
A little lady, old and gray
So feeble she could barely stand
I didn't have time to give her a hand
Hurrying down the grocery aisle
Someone looked at me and smiled
I didn't take the time to look
I had to hurry on home and cook
In the parking lot was a little boy
Raising money, selling toys
I was curt as I rushed away fast
No money, I lied, as I raced on past
And then as I returned from thence
There was a man beside a fence
I saw him as he tripped and fell
I never stopped to wish him well
Four chances given within a day
To help an angel on his way
Forgive me, Lord, for not hearing the cries
Of "angels among us" in disguise
BE MINE
Valentine's Day is here once more
With flowers and cards that rhyme
Each one with the same request
"Valentine, Be Mine"
As we're rushing here and there
So worried about the time
Do we hear our Savior's plea
"Valentine, Be Mine"
He's the very One that shed
His precious blood divine
Upon the cross, arms opened wide
"Valentine, Be Mine"
Let's be still and heed His plea
It could be the very last time
That he knocks upon the door
"Valentine, Be Mine"
SIN-SICK
Sin-like a slippery thief
will quickly steal you blind.
Not caring what he takes from you,
your heart, your soul, your mind.
Sin, like a professional killer
will skillfully take you down.
With no remorse, he spills your blood
upon the cold, hard ground.
Sin, like a cunning fox
will cleverly entrap the weak
Sneering, as he lures you from
the safety that you seek.
Sin, like a lying charmer
will convincingly spin a tale.
Revealing only half the truth
as you fall beneath his spell.
Sin, like a slithering snake
will beguile you with his charm.
Showing you the poisoned fangs
too late to escape from harm.
Sin, like a crafty gambler
will beat you at your game.
Robbing you blind before your eyes,
leaving you nothing but shame.
Forgiveness, like a flowing spring
will wash away all gloom.
Resplendent light will fill your soul
where darkness has no room.
SALVATION FULL AND FREE
Faithfully, she goes to church
On Sunday and mid-week
Beautifully, she sings each hymn
With a voice that's quite unique
She THINKS she's all right
Faithfully, he dodges church
He couldn't sing if he tried
But if tonight were his last night
In Heaven, he'd lift his eyes
He KNOWS he's all right
She cusses very rarely
Maybe twice within a year
She goes about her honest life
With a conscience she deems clear
He hasn't lived his life for God
His heart is so unclean
He goes his hypocritical way
Yet his soul has been redeemed
The difference in the two above
Is as simple as can be
She is trying to buy her way
He's Heaven-bound for free
Each one of us must have that place
Where we've received our peace
It's very clear within our heart
We know we've been set free
It's not the walk and it's not the talk
That makes Heaven our destination
It's simple belief, a simple trust
That brings reconciliation
Then once we're saved we have the choice
To live for Him or the world
Not choosing God will bring regret
In Heaven, no rewards
But we will be in Heaven above
Instead of Hell below
Not because we've earned our way
But because God saved our soul
I'M-PERFECT
Imperfection is humanism at its best.
Man's greatest efforts are nothing
compared to God, who created all things effortlessly.
Imperfection is pride in its blindest form.
Man's declarations of humility are laughable
to a God who sees no need of boasting.
Imperfection is goodness at its peak.
Man's grandest deeds are as filthy rags
to a God who can only be totally righteous.
Imperfection is humanity personified.
Man's hardest attempts will surely fail
compared to God, who is unfailingly perfect.
Perfection is Heaven at its worst.
Man's vivid imaginations are shadows
compared to Heaven, whose eminence and brilliance is God.
