Internet security is the main challenge we all face in today's cyber world. It seem impossible sometimes to cope with these
problems and it feels like there is no way out. I felt like this just a few months ago, and I decided to go on a quest and look
for the right combination of tools that would allow me not only to prevent a virus attack, but to contain them once they were
in my system.
I knew one solution was to create a hardware firewall, which would protect me before the Internet connection would reach
my network.
The typical firewall found in routers did not appeal to me, and I needed a more advanced security system if I wanted to
survive the constant threat I was experiencing.
I knew Linux-based Firewalls could be the solution, but I don't know the Linux code and I did not have the time to learn it.
After several months looking the solution came.
Software based on Linux that would act as an Operating System and it could be installed on an old PC. I found several
versions but the friendliest one out there was Smoothwall Express 2.0.

This software will turn an old PC into a dedicated firewall and router.
I found out that for a network of 4 computers a Pentium 200
with 64 megabytes of RAM and a 1-2 gigabyte Hard drive is more
than enough . Once you network grows, you just install it on a more
powerful computer. Once you install it,you will notice an increase in your
Internet speed, or better said, The pages open smoother on the browser, I guess thats why is called
"Smoothwall".

The Smoothwall website gives you extensive documentation on installation and configuration of the firewall. As
far as hardware is concerned, you probably already have a spare pc with two network cards. The Smoothwal
configurator detects most PCI NIC cards. Personally , I use D-link 530 tx and via rhino cards. Most on board
LAN cards are also auto detected.
It is not recommended to use ISA LAN cards because of their outdated architecture and the limited speed they
can handle.I personally think that unless you have DSL or Cable Internet,it is not worth utilizing this type of
Firewall. It does not mean it does not work with Dial-up,but it is quite slow. Check on the next link to see the

Another Software that I highly recommend for Spyware cleaning is Spysweeper 2.6
Spysweeper is a very advanced Software designed by Webroot.com and it comes with more than 23000 free
finger prints already. That is a whole a lot free fingerprints.
Spybot also gives you a lot fingerprints but Spysweeper has a Cookie Shield and Memory
Shield But Spybot does not. Adaware 6.0 is also a very power Spyware cleaner, but Spysweeper is friendlier
and you have a slimmer chance to wipe out a window file.
If a Spyware is running in memory, Spysweeper lets you know right away and it advices you to do a sweep,
