Holding On

Hello. My name is Sandie (also known as Miss Seeker -from the song "Are You Ready?" by Creed!) and I am from Tennessee. I am 15 (March 5, 1986 being my date of birth). I do not have any recent pictures, but you can kind of tell what I look like from the picture above and the ones from my picture page. Well, now I have black hair (three times as long might I add), glasses, and I am not a prep as the pictures portray. I choose to live for Jesus, and it's good. All good. Creed is my all time favorite band though there are many many many awesome music artists. These include, Life House, Dashboard Confessional, Our Lady Peace, KoRn, Dave Matthews, Five Iron Frenzy, Metalicca, Everclear, Jewel, Sublime, Angie Aparo, Incubus, Fuel, Linkin Park, Garth Brooks, U2, Tool, Train, Weezer, Uncle Cracker, They Might Be Giants, Sunny Day Real Estate, Smashing Pumpkins, Green Day, Nirvana, Offspring, Godsmack, New Found Glory, The Ataris, A Perfect Circle, American Hi-Fi, and many many many more! As you can tell, I LOVE music! I really enjoy drawing and anything to do with art. I'm pretty much always on my computer talking to friends. I have found some of the GREATEST people alive online. I am a vegetarien for various reasons. My number one reason is because I see no reason as to WHY humans are the dominate species. But THAT is another story! If you like to debate/support your religion/non religion, then the Creed Faith/Religion Bulletin Board is the place to be! (www.creednet.com) And, I enjoy making words. That's always fun! Well, here is a paper I did on animal experimentation, you don't have to read it if you do not wish to of course!

Animal testing is a cruel and inhumane activity that should be illegal. Animals go through excruciating pain during these tests. Many times the experiments are useless, and the outcomes have different results on humans. Another factor to point out is that humans have no proof that they are better than animals. There are many alternative experiments that do not use animals that are just as effective.
It is a known fact that animals feel pain, and they should not suffer because of humans (Woods 12). You can see the pain of an animal (Woods 8). Animal experimentation surely does cause pain and suffering (Woods 12). 2.2 million animals (not including rats, mice, fish, or birds) were used in laboratories (Woods 6). “The Department of Agriculture reports that during 1997, about 100,000 animals were in distress and were given no painkillers during experiments” (Woods 49).
Vivisection means cutting or performing surgery (experimentation) on an animal (Day 13). The reaction of an animal cannot be compared to the reaction of a human being (Woods 51). “Even if the experiments helped human beings, such research is still wrong” (Woods 12). Between 1976 and 1985 the Food and Drug Administration reports that over half of the newly tested products (tested on animals) caused more serious side effects (Woods 51).
Speciesism is a prejudice or an attitude of bias in favor of the interests of members of one’s own species against members of other species (Hurley 25). “Just as a racist believes that one race is better than the other or a sexist believes that one sex is better than another, a speciest favors one species- humans- over animals” (Woods 15).
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is an organization fighting for animal rights. Their motto is “Animals are not ours to eat, wear, experiment on, or use in entertainment” (Woods 16).
No, animals cannot talk or reason like human beings, but they should get the same considerations as human beings (Woods 15). “If possessing a higher degree of intelligence does not entitle one human to use another for his or her own ends, how can it entitle humans to exploit nonhumans for the same purpose” (Animal Rights: Opposing View Points 22)? It is wrong to harm humans, so therefore, it is wrong to harm animals (Hurley 24). As humans, we have a moral obligation to stop hurting Earth’s creatures because we feel we are more powerful or superior than they are (Woods 48, 49). Animals are not tools of humans (Woods 16).
In vitro experiments are experiments without using animals (Woods 24). There are many alternatives, such as artificial cells, which have been used to test new heart drugs and make artificial organs (Woods 26). Tests have also been done on human volunteers (Woods 29). “Some human beings contribute to science even after they are dead by allowing an autopsy.” Doctors also observe diseased humans (Woods 27). Also, by analyzing how one chemical reacts compared to another, scientists can make useful products. A chemical can also be put into a PH meter which tells whether a chemical is a base, acid, or neutral and helps to understand a few of the effects it would have on humans (Woods 26). “Dean Smith, an animal activist, states that ‘most [activists] believe that there are alternatives for some animal experiments and that the scientific community should be actively striving to create more” (Woods 53).
Animal experimentation is wrong and immoral. It hurts the animals and is usually useless. Who says humans are the superior beings? To conclude, animal testing should be outlawed.

Alrighty, that's about all I have to say for now! My AIM name is MissSeeker if you wish to speak to me! I love to talk to people, and trust me, I don't judge. -Peace and love to you- Sandie
