THE WINNER FOR CONTEST 1 IN THE OVER AGE 18 CATAGORY:
Alice Dunklin
Answer by Alice Dunklin: My favorite horse was named Trouble and the name suited him admirably. It also suited me as I was not the sweewtest child on earth. I was always so happy to see him and took him sugar cubes each time I went to ride. He would start off just fine- I would hop aboard and we would walk out to the big pasture, then we would start trotting torwards the woods. After covering half the pasture, Trouble would suddenly turn and head back torwards the barn at full gallop. What a wild ride. It took every ounce of strenght I had in my skinny arms yo slow him down and turn him back around to ride the trails through the woods. This was the routine every time I rode that crazy horse. I think he and I always understood one another. I didn't want to do what everyone else did and niether did he, but he learned when he needed to follow and do what was in his best interests. That is a lesson I guess we all have to learn.
THE WINNER FOR CONTESTS 2 IN THE OVER AGE 18 CATAGORY:
Alice Dunklin
Answer by Alice Dunklin: The Lippizaner horse breed came from the island of Lippi in the North Atlantic Ocean. It was very cold on the island and people spoke a very strange language which is no longer spoken any where. Anyway to make a long story very short the word for horse in the Lippi islanders language was "zaner." These horses were very angile. They were used as work horses and while working they were able to keep warm. When released at the end of the day, they would leap over one another and jump into the air in order to stay resonably warm. The islanders watched their antics and finally relized that these were talented horses. They began using the horses for entertainment. Soon they found that people from the other islands would pay to see the horses perform. After a while the horses were imported to the mainland of Europe and on to become the great Lippizaners we know today.

A GREAT HORSE BREED !
Its height is aproximately 14-15.2 hands high. It originated in the United States and is spotted in color with a mottled muzzle, striped hooves, and white sclrea. The breed descended from spanish horses imported to America. This breed was developed by the Nez Perce Indians. The indians found that the Appaloosa's spots made great camouflage. Its name came from the Palouse river which flowed through their territoy. They are very versatile and can do almost any sport, but are best at jumping.

Vaulting is gymnastics on horseback. This sport is in the World Equestrian Games. In competition handstands and flips are performed to the jolting canter of a horse who is being lunged! How exciting! In vaulting their are seven compulsory moves which must be performed in competition as well as a freestyle rutine called a kur.

It is extremley hard to train a vaulting horse. They must learn to keep moving while vaulters mount, dismount, and perform their tricks. This is very hard for a horse to do so it must be trained very well.
Do you have a horse sport you would like in this spot?
If so please mail it to the adress above.

You must groom your horse to keep it happy, healthy, and clean.
To groom your horse you will need: a curry comb, dandy brush, body brush, and a hoofpick.
Curry Comb: The curry comb gets up sweat and dirt from underneath the horses coat.
Dandy Brush: This brush has hard bristles to remove the sweat and dirt which has been brought to the surface by the curry comb.
Body Brush: This soft bristled brush gently wipes away what is left behind by the dandy brush.
Hoofpick: This pick removes all rocks, dirt, manure, ect. from the horse's hoof.

When a horse puts it's ears back, stomps, (sometimes horses stomp to keep flies away, this is not a sign of agression) or shows his teeth your horse is anry. Always stay away when your horse does this! When a horse rests its hoof that means that it is relaxed. When a horses ears are pricked forward that means that it is alert. If you watch carefully you will see your horses ears move back and forth. That means that it is lisening to you and all the noise around it.

Horses are measured in hands. One hand is equal to 4 inches. Horses are measured to their withers, not the tip of their ears. A horse is 14.2 hh(hands high) or taller and a pony is 14.1 hh or smaller.

If you have a horse with a vice keep it away from other horses, they may develope the bad habbit too.
Wood Chewing: It is when a horse gnaws on wooden things such as fences and feeders. When a horse does this it probably isn't getting a certain mineral or enough roughage (grass, hay, ect.) in his diet. If the grass is scarce or damadged give your horse hay. Put a mineral block in your horses field.
Cribbing: This is when your horse grabs an object, like a fence, arches his neck and sucks in air. A cribbing horse can ruin a barn and fences. If your horse cribs put a cribbing collar on it.
*****************************************************************
A green horse is a young horse or a horse who hasn't had much training. The walk and gallop are both four-beat gaits. The piaffe is a movement performed in the highest level of dressage.
