FARASI RUNNERS CLUB
Who are we?
Farasi Runners Club is an organization dedicated to promoting personal, spiritual, self-motivation, cultivation of talent, exploration of athletic possibility and community growth through athletics. At Farasi RC we are dedicated to providing an environment in which the whole person is trained, not just the athlete. Loosely based in Knappa High school Track and Field 10km from Astoria; Farasi RC intend to draw its young membership from throughout the Clatsop Area.
Farasi RC has had quiet an auspicious beginning. It boasts of runners like Cowapa League Champions Abby Chesimet, Ian MacDougal, also talented runner Katie Choates and others who have benefited from being affiliated with Farasi RC.
The idea is to meet at Knappa High School twice a week this summer and engage in athletic activities, with running being the primary activity. These runs, and other aerobic activities, while informal, will provide the ground work for more intense work for those who want to explore deeper, wider and higher in running track and cross country in their respective high school.
In addition to athletics, however, the Farasi would seek to explore and improve her members in Spirit, Mind, and Body. This group will demand high standard in ALL areas of life. The standard will continue to be challenging and high values will be promoted. Social interaction will be in accordance to stipulated code of conduct that each member will be expected to adhere to at all times.
As your coach and fellow runner, I hope and pray that Farasi Running Club ignites some running thrill in you as you drive to explore your untapped passion. I pray that the future of our club can be even brighter than our past. It is my hope to see Farasi RC become a blessing to as many young people as possible, runners and non-runners alike. Thanks for your interest in this vision, and think about being a part of where we're going.
Kemboi Kipkirui Chesimet
Born in 1970, in the Eastern ends of Africa, runners farm of Kenya, I have could describe myself as “born to run”.
Not only does my genetic disposition allow me to run, it also gave me an opportunity to cross over to the great Idea of the Yankee Land on athletic scholarship in 1991.
Post collegiate days did not bring any finish line in sight for me. Turned professional for 4 years and explored the European Grandprix stopping in most of the Scandinavian countries, central Europe and stretching it to Qatar, in the Middle East.
The twin blessings came in national commercial piece that featured the sports drink. Also on the billboard was a promotional piece with Nike for 2000 Sydney Olympics.
At the height of my career I posted personal best of:
• 800meters-1:46.28
• 1,500meters-3:49.45
• 400meters-48.13
• 5miles-25.57
• 8km-36.48
• Mile-4:03.00
Why I run
Running continues to feature deeply in my system. One thing I know. There is no substitute for running, no matter the age. No matter what time I do it, where I do it or how I do it.
To me running has not only kept me young, it has given me a deeper, wider and higher appreciation for life on personal and global fronts.
I do not fight age. Running does that for me. Doctors don’t talk to me a lot. Running does. Running has won that battle for me. Running remains a fountain of youth for me, my zenith of life. It keeps me young forever. When I run, I know there’s no need to grow old. I know that my running, my continual play, will conquer time.
All I do is run.
And there on the roads, woods, grasslands, gravel roads, hills, valleys, under the canopy of towering trees, the unforgiving weather, sun rays penetrating my Nike glasses, I can pursue my perfection for the rest my days.
My goal as career runner is not health. My objective is fitness necessary for maximal performance. Health is something I go through on the way to fitness.
You still might wonder why I run. I will tell you this again: I was born to run and my choice is simple.
Running.
