THE LEGEND OF THE HAIR WITCH
The legend of the Hair Witch dates back to the 1600s. Right before the Salem Witch Trials, a woman living in Boston, Massachusetts was accused of being a witch. The late 20s lady was known for her love of cutting the hair of her family, and she had also been known for cutting the hair of people who asked her to do so. When a teen-aged boy accused the woman of witchcraft, she totally freaked. The night before her trial, she vanished, and was never seen in Boston again. The townspeople assumed that she killed herself in the harbor, and she was all but forgotten.
Accourding to the legend, however, the woman did not kill herself. She had packed up a few personal belongings, and when the sun set that night, she left the town. She wondered around, cutting people's hair whenever she could. Her journey brought her north to current-day Derry, New Hampshire. There, she settled in the woods with a group of people who had been cast out of their settlements for various reasons. She again took up haircutting, and together with the group, she helped to establish a tiny settlement. The settlement was most well-known for the lady and her hair cutting. For many years, the lady was happy cutting hair.
Word, naturally, got out about the lady and her ability to cut hair. People from all over went to see her. Even people in Boston went, although most never put any thought to this haircutter being their
"witch". However, a small group of 6 men did believe that the New Hampshire hair cutter was the disappeared lady. They marched north to the location of the settlement. There they found the lady and decided to move into the settlement to spy on the lady to find out if she was really a witch. The hair cutter soon realized that the new people in the village were spying on her, and in no time she remembered them from Boston. Instantly, she went to work to put a spell on them. She really was a witch, but she only used her witchcraft to help people. This was the first time she planned to do anything evil.
For a month, the hair cutting witch and the men spied on each other. One night, they caught her in her house working on her witchcraft and chanting. They knew right then that they had to destroy her and return to Boston to tell everyone that the witch was dead - not from the sea but from them. They spent the next day planning how they were going to kill the witch.
That night, they watched as she began to mix things in a giant pot. She was working on a spell against them, but they did not know it at the time. They broke through the door and grabbed her and beat her until she was clearly dead. Then they set the house on fire.
Since the entire village was made of wood, the fire spread and within an hour, the whole settlement was aflame. Many of the villagers escaped, but they were now homeless. The Bostonians invited them to move to Boston, but the invitation was declined, and soon the two groups parted ways. The people who lived with the witch moved to another location to set up a village and the men from Boston started the journey south.
On the trip south, all 6 men died. Not one of them returned to Boston to tell about the witch or her death. Just like the lady, they were never heard of in the town again.
Many years passed, and soon a nice settlement had taken hold over the old settlement. Much to the surprise of the new settlers, the woods around them seemed to be haunted. Then, one late night, it happened - the first contact between the Hair Witch and people.
The people were two little boys, and they returned from gathering fire wood and told their mothers that they had been led into a small little shack by a woman. Once inside, she made one of the boys face the corner of the shack while she cut the other's hair because she couldn't stand the eyes watching her. Soon more people around the area reported the same story. Always, it was the same - two people, with one in the corner, for the witch could not stand having a person's eyes on her as she cut hair.
The reports have been the same from the late 1600s up to the year 2000. People of every race, age, and gender have been victimized by the Hair Witch. Each time, it is the same thing, but with different people. It's said that, when the wind sways through the trees, you can hear a pair of scissors cutting.
Beware if you are ever in the New Hampshire woods. The Hair Witch started out as a nice lady who cut hair very well, but when she was murdered, her hair cutting was effected. When she was attacked by the six men from Boston, the hand she held the scissors in was badly damaged. For that reason, she can not cut hair as well as she used to. In fact, her ability is now a disgrace. But that is her finally revenge. Enter her woods and you will know it! You might be one of the people who go in and come out, but if you make it out alive, you will have the most horrible hair style ever.
Now, 3 daring teens will attempt to get the Hair Witch on tape. They are planning on going into the woods for a day or two. The object is to video the Hair Witch and maybe to find out why she has continued to haunt the people of New Hampshire. Their footage will most likely be made into a tape, but only if that footage makes it out of the woods. They could get lucky and get the Hair Witch, they could get nothing, or they could become her latest victims. More news on this will be posted when we get it.
