Nation Wide Trucker Shut Down Oct. 31 - Nov. 6

*** If we all stick together in this, we will succeed!
WE are not advocating any violence in relation to our protest. We do not receive any money from this effort what so ever.

During this time when many Americans are struggling with the choice between gas in their tanks and food for their families, the oil companies are reporting all time high profits! If truckers are successful with these efforts, the benefits will be felt by those in and out of the trucking industry. The trucking industry is the largest and most needed industry of the country. If you have it, a trucker brought it to you!

Many of the companies and truckers are simply trying to stay afloat in an industry that is drowning due to the rising fuel cost and unchanging freight rates. The outrageous prices on maintenance and repairs are also taking a toll on large and small companies alike. Most people need to realize that the trucking industry affects everyone in this great nation. These prices are reflected not only at the gas pumps, but also at grocery stores and other retail establishments.

Company owner Ed says “Why are the oil companies reporting an all time high during these times when most Americans in and out of the trucking industry are choosing between fuel to keep their jobs and food for their families? It isn’t right! I hope every driver on the road shuts down. I also would like to see everyone protest in a peaceful manner.”

Owner operator, Mychael says “The freight rates are the same as they were 10 years ago, yet the price of fuel has tripled. This shut down has been a long time coming and we need to open some eyes!”

Company owner Cecil says “This will definitely benefit us all, I am all for it! We need to draw attention to our needs.”

The trucking industry is the largest and most needed in the country. Close to 12,000 small businesses in the industry have gone under in the last few years. The average truck gets 6 miles to the gallon in fuel. When fuel prices are three dollars a gallon, it takes fifty cents per mile alone in fuel to run that truck. With most freight rates at $1.00 a mile, ( which is what many owner operators receive, however, a lot are only getting 88 cents a mile), you can see that there is barely anything left out of profits by the time you figure fuel, not to mention, maintenance and repairs on equipment. So how are these people getting their families fed?

*Truckers have no choice to unite for this cause in order to see to their own families well being.
*Even though a shut down lasting a week would temporarily hurt everyone, the benefits that are to be gained in the long run would be far better for not only in the industry, but for the American people as well.

Dear _____________,

There is a petition that is circulating the country and getting very many signatures. Some of the people who are supporting this would like to meet with you in Washington D.C. on October 17, 2005. We would also like you to solicit other members who are willing to listen to these people. Also, since this is pertaining to the trucking industry as well as the rising cost of fuel, we would also like to have members of the transportation committee present. Truckers across the country are beginning to unite due to the economic pressures that are being felt. If some type of resolution can not be achieved to alter the current situation, it will force drivers to seek alternative measures. We are asking you to please stand up for the hard working Americans, not only in the trucking industry, but the communities as well. Please contact Marie @ 352-553-2193 to make plans or refuse this offer. The signed petitions would be presented to you on October 17, 2005. Please also note that these petitions are in NO way a threat to you or anyone else.

Thank You For Your Time,

** The only government office to respond to this letter was Senator Mel Martinez of Florida. On October 17, 2005 we met with Joe Mantilla who is on Senator Martinez's staff, and delivered the signed petitions supporting this action.
