HEAVEN'S PROMISE
"Heaven's Promise is about the eternal struggle between man and woman set to a backdrop, which documents the birth of Acid House, currently, the biggest youth craze of the Western World." (*P.H.)
It's London, 1988. The winds of change are blowing throughout the city. The main character refuses the whole 9 to 5 gig and lands his dream job as a DJ. He's finally comfortable with life. Until, one Saturday morning he gets a phone call that will change him forever. It's Sandra. She's pregnant. He wants no part of it, but she is determined to keep the baby.
"As he struggles with the notion of fatherhood and responsibility, the biggest craze since punk is born in London. It's called Acid House. The DJ takes Ecstasy for the very first time and then immerses himself in Ecstasy culture as a means of escape. Yet he cannot shake off his feelings of guilt about his child."(*P.H.)
The story turns when he falls in love with Indigo. He never tells her about the baby. One night Sandra shows up at the club with their daughter. Later the whole thing blows up in his face causing him to lose Indigo.
"Meanwhile, as his life unfolds we meet a collection of colourful characters all trying to make their way in the Capital, all of whom are brought together to fight off the facist National Front party who are holding a march in a particularly sensitive part of town."(*P.H.)
Heaven's Promise is also a coming of age story. Through losing Indigo and his job, seeing his baby, and rioting, he discovers that he needs to be a man and stop running from responsibility all the time.
"Paolo Hewitt's portrayal of London is a rich description of a melting pot of races, American Soul music, and fine threads."(*Amazon UK)
It's about the birth of the E-Generation. The excitng new times that evolved into one of the biggest youth culture movements ever to come about.
Heaven's Promise sold out in its print run and attracts everyone from the club kids of today to those who were there when it all began in the 80's in London and then caught on in the U.S.
The pages exude the charisma of the characters and the visuals of a trendy cultural London scene enveloped by intoxicating music.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR...
“Paolo Hewitt, highly respected and talented music writer. Born July 11, 1958 in England” (Wholepoint).
“…Heaven’s Promise was the first novel by NME music journalist Paolo Hewitt. The book was a young man’s coming of age set in the heady days of Acid House. The book was well received and sold out it’s print run. The author has also written biographies of The Jam and The Small Faces, and two ‘on the road’ books with Oasis” (Heavenly).
The idea for the novel came when Paolo got the news that he was going to be a father. Subsequently, he had wanted to write a book about the ambiance of London during the early days of Acid House and the introduction of Ecstasy in clubs. The result was Heaven’s Promise. A novel that he describes as, ”The eternal struggle between man and woman set to the birth of the biggest youth culture.”
Some of Paolo’s works include; "The Looked After Kid", "The Sharper World", "Bless The Reason Why", "The Young Mods Forgotten Story", "Soul Stylists", "A Beat Concerto", "Days Lose Their Names And Time Slips Away", ...and many more.
“…Has shot and appeared in a few Weller promotional videos, shot the Go Discs Weller promo video, screenplay for Jerusalem, Highlights and hang-ups” (Wholepoint).
“…This is a man who had traveled all around the world with Oasis and then written the stupendously superb Forever The People: Six Months On The Road With Oasis. He’s one of Paul Weller’s best mates and has penned sleeve notes for albums by The Jam, the Style Council, and Weller’s solo material” (Spike Magazine).
