Welcome to Kashkabear's Web Page
This is my first attempt at a web page. I hope to communicate with people having varied interests and hopefully to share information we may all find useful. ICE HOCKEY/OVARIAN CANCER
LINKS PAGE have been updated. Page updated, Feb. 3, 2003. That's my best friend in the photo. I'm wearing the brown hat.
I am 29 years old and live in the Philadelphia region of Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania is a very pretty state, and you should visit if given the chance. I am a passionate fan of Ice Hockey, the Pittsburgh Penguins being my favorite NHL team. That can cause the occasional problem living in Philly, but I kind of like going against the grain. I'm a fan of all Pennsylvania Hockey.
***2003 GIRLS'/WOMEN'S Nationals Ice Hockey Tornament*** April, Philadelphia***Schedule is available through USA Hockey Link, or you can email me for information.
I would like to become a travel writer. I am currently organizing an "interactive online" cross country road trip meeting online friends and relatives. The plan is to journal the trip online using written word, web pictures, and hopefully a web cam. Contact me if you would like to be a sponsor.
UPDATE MY INFO (esp. cancer info) through the e-mail contact link. I want to have accurate info on these subjects. Looking for skating info. also. Technique for becoming an Ice Hockey Official ( ref/ linesmen).
I am currently undergoing treatment for Stage 4 Ovarian Cancer. I was diagnosed in May 2002. PLEASE LEARN THE SYMPTOMS (information is available in HEALTH links) I received a full hysterectomy and a bowel resection through sugery at that time. The treatments are working very well, and to date I have to get testing to decide how we're going to proceed with treatment. We're working on my liver now. Much love and support to others enduring illnesses. May you stay mentally strong. It's the most important thing of all.
UPDATE: 12-22-02 I had a most enjoyable Soltice in the Pennsylvania mountains. I was feeling pretty ill from the last chemo they gave me earlier in the week. I had had some time between treatments and my physical and mental resiliancy were low. I am bouncing back from that, appetite is back, and I'm moving around much better. ...Waiting to see what happens with the next round. I was fending off the side effects of the therapy amazingly before, but they changed one of the drugs and that time off between treatments may have really thrown me off for a loop. They have me on Carboplatnin and Taxotere (changed from Taxol).
UPDATE 1-13-03: Happy New Year to All! Mine has started off great. My last chemo (on the 6th) went well. I didn't get the side affects as bad, although I'll mention a complaint about my mouth. The mouth taste and some of the sores produced as a result of the chemo have been a bother this time. It honestly feels like my saliva is made of battery acid, so each time I swallow it burns my throat. My throat is constantly raw, making eating difficult, especially if there is spice in the food. Bland is the word right now.
UPDATE 2-3-03: Had my 9th chemo treatment Mon. Jan. 27. They gave me the original Taxol chemo drug I had recieved the first 6 treatments. My side effects have been much more manageable. The mouth has not acted up at all, which is blessed. My finger tips got a little numb, but not bad enough to take the Glutamine. ***If you get numbness in the fingers or toes from your treatment, ask your doctor(!) if it's ok to take "L-Glutamine". It's a dietary supplement I buy in powder form from GNC. Mix it in a glass of juice or water, and within minutes you'll feel relief in the fingers and toes. Sometimes it gets so bad it's difficult to touch things, like newspaper. Thank you Dolly (lung cancer survivor) for that tip!*** When I had the break in treatment, my CA125 (cancer blood test) numbers increased a bit, so it looks like we'll have to continue treatment. I am getting tests done this week, and we'll discuss options when we see the results. I've also begun journaling my experience with cancer, and have realized that I have had the obvious symptoms for ovarian cancer since 1991. I am very fortunate, and would like to remind everyone to LEARN THE SYMPTOMS, they are getting better at detection and prevention. Besides, it's just in your general best interest! Check out the new link for Sloan-Kettering. It's a good one, esp. for symptoms.
