ISLAM: THE TRUTH
OVERVIEW
Islam. One of the many religions in the world today. It is the second largest religion on earth with 1.6 billion followers. During the last fifty years, Muslims have increased in number by over 235 percent. By comparison, Christians have increased by only 47 percent, Hindus by 117 percent, and Buddhists by 63 percent.
Founded by the Prophet Muhammad(peace be upon him)in the 6th century A.D., Islam was revealed to the Arabs and was a continuation of Judaism and Christianity. Islam teaches the same lessons that were taught by prophets preceeding Muhammad(PBUH)such as Noah, Abraham, Moses, Isaac, Ishmael, and Jesus(peace be upon them).
THE QURAN
The holy book of the Muslims is called the Quran. The Quran was the miracle of the Prophet Muhammd(PBUH), who could neither read nor write. When read in it's original language, Arabic, the Quran offers unmatched poetry and meaning that clearly could not have been written by anyone other than God.
The Quran has stories of prophets such as Joseph, Moses, Abraham, Adam, Noah, Jonah, and more that are almost identical to the Bible and Torah. The Quran preaches fairness to all men, kindness to orphans, and responsibility for ones actions. It forbids killing except for defense of one's land, home, etc.
THE QURAN AND WAR
The Quran was the first document to make laws for war. The Quran forbids the killing of women and children in war. It even forbids a Muslim to cut down a tree or harm anyone who does not harm him. In Surah 2 verse 190 of the Quran it says, "Fight against those who fight against you in the way of Allah, but do not transgress, for Allah does not love transgressors."
THE QURAN AND WOMEN
The Quran was the first document to give women rights of inheritance, rights to choose a husband, rights to a fair trial by jury, rights to be a witness in a court, and even rights to seek employment.
