A DAY FULL OF FUN AT YAMASKA
28August2004

This summer, the Kalinangan Dance Troupe Foundation literally treated the dancers and their significant others to a day full of fun at Yamaska!

The Parents Committee spearheaded by Dolly Laude, put their heads together planning every single details of the excursion. Thanks to Vino’s mother, Araceli Nabor; who suggested Yamaska in the Eastern Townships. Great idea indeed, as everyone enjoyed the amenities that Yamaska Park has to offer including Row Boat, Pedal Boat, Kayaking, Canoeing, Wind surfing, Swimming etc.

All dancers were treated by the Kalinangan Dance Troupe (a.k.a. KDT) foundation for the entrance fee and a water sport activity of their choice. Thanks to KDT’s Board of Directors for the generosity! The directors that demonstrated support that day were: Albert Gutierrez, Lee Sanga, Hilda Tan-Veloso, Leony Abelardo, and Nemia Saldua. Although not present, Cora Aberin showed her support by preparing “pansit” and lending her bingo set. Equally appreciated is the presence and support of Adonis Tamayo, one of the directors of Philippine Folk Art Society of Quebec.

Everything was perfect from the weather, right down to the food. Each family brought a specialty dish to everyone’s delight. It was literally a long table full of food! There wasn’t any dull moment from the time we arrived! It was a non-stop activity orchestrated by Mimi Noche-Tamayo, not only for the dancers but for the parents as well. Parents and directors enjoyed the BINGO game presided by Adonis Tamayo while the dancers splurge on a water sport of their choice.

After the water sport activities, the kids enjoyed the barbecue prepared by the parents committee. Barbecue was pouring like rain! Different assortments of barbecues were served from beef, chicken, pork, hotdogs, and burgers.

We concluded our day with contests and games such as: Potato Sack Race Relay, Three Legged Race, Limbo Rock, Paper Dance and Bring an Object Game. Every winner received consolation prizes compliments of Lee Sanga, Leony Abelardo, Adonis & Mimi Tamayo and Hilda Tan-Veloso. Performing artist who were present that day received a pink or blue friendship bracelet from their choreographer, Mimi Tamayo.

At this point, I would like to give credit to our choir, consists mostly of parents who volunteered to sing “Elay” for our Paper Dance contest. Leony Abelardo, director, headed the choir. It was fun hearing their sugary voices. I wonder if we could engage them to sing “Elay” for our next performance.

The success of KDT’s excursion is of course, attributed to all the parents of the dancers who made it possible. Thanks for the contribution and participation of the following: Tess & Jojo Bagtas, Amy Chantengco, Sonia Dagliagon, Lee Sanga, Eppie Gevero, Dolly Laude, Cely Nabor, Lea & Carding Panti, Lilia & Carlo Pecho, Mila St.Laurent, Adonis & Mimi Tamayo and Eddie & Marivic Vea.

A day full of fun like this I would say –
KUDOS to KDT Directors, Dancers, Parents & Supporters!
