KDT Backstage Helpful Hints
KDT Back Stage Helpful Hints
1. All makeup for any performance must be finished 1 hour before. We need to build in enough time so that we can organize, do briefing and light warm-ups before the show. A makeup tech (assigned) will usually be at the dressing room’s makeup area 2 hours before the show.
2. When you are finished with your makeup, please leave the makeup area. This area gets very crowded and we want to make sure everyone is well taken care of.
3. Organize costumes and accessories. Know the order of the dance performances as well as the shows programming.
4. If you are experienced in putting on stage makeup and have some extra time, please help someone who is new to the stage. Perhaps you can teach them to do their own makeup.
5. Makeup is never applied when you are in costume. Please bring old clothes to wear while working with makeup because some types may stain clothing. Please bring an old towel for facial cleanup. Facial tissue is too hard on your skin.
6. If you are not sure how to apply something, please make sure to ask questions. Remember, there are no stupid questions!
7. If you have sensitive skin, please let the makeup techs know so that they may find a better type of makeup to apply.
8. If you expect to arrive late for the Call Time (usually 2 hours before the show), make sure that you arrive with hair and makeup set.
9. Makeup for most shows is MU1 or Basic Street Makeup. Everyone should apply powder so you don't blind the audience with the bright glare of sweat.
MEN/BOYS: foundation and some cheek color (no reds or bright colors), eyeliner, and maybe some lip liner or very light lipstick/gloss. Some men and boys might not need any foundation.
WOMEN/GIRLS: foundation, eye color, cheek color, lip color, eyeliner, mascara.
10. Be there for the 2 minutes assembly before the House Down (lights off before the show begins).
Note: Stage makeup does not look like everyday makeup. It should be a bit heavier-looking but not excessive.
Please be sure to pick up after yourself. We need to keep the dressing room as clean as possible. No food or drink in the makeup area. Water will be available.
THANKS AND HAVE A GREAT SHOW, EVERYONE
