YOUR HAIR BY KAHLA
As a hairstylist who has been working in the industry for almost 10 years now, I am aware that although a good style is easy enough to find, maintaining it from home can be a little harder to do. I also do some beauty work, so if there is anything you would like to know about your hair or beauty regime I would be only too happy to help. Feel free to ask me anything you want to know.
Here are some of my all time favorite tips to help YOU out at home.
* When blowdrying your hair at home, work your style using a brush. Heat each section you are styling for 3-5 seconds then move heat away for 3-5 seconds. The heat will mould your hair into place and leaving it to cool will set it into place.
* If you want a natural looking finish and hair that moves, yet want a little hold, try spraying a little aerosol hairspray onto your brush and carefully brushing the hair into style. This works best on freshly blow-waved hair.
* If you find that you have an OILY scalp, but that you need a conditioner still, apply only to the midlengths and ends and comb through with a wide tooth(or "afro" comb) never a brush as brushing wet hair can cause major damage.
* Over the summer months hair can become very damaged, so before you hit the sand, sea and sun, a protective spray is a must. Make sure it has U.V filters to protect your hair as the sun can be as damaging to your hair as your body.
* Each hair type has its own needs, so it is important that you buy the right products. For DAMAGED, over-LIGHTENED and very DRY or BRITTLE hair, moisture is not necessarily what you need. First the hair needs to be repaired from within, because all the moisture in the world only covers the problem. What you need is a PROTEIN based product system.
* For FINE hair there are some very good products available for adding volume. Products to be applyed to the root area before blowdrying are usually very effective. Avoid conditioner altogether if appropriate as it can weigh the hair down. If you need a conditioner, there are volume conditioners in most ranges.
* Moisture, however is very important for CURLY hair to help settle frizzies and flyaways. There are some great curl boosting products available. Be careful however not to overdo things or your hair could end up looking oily.
* Shine sprays and serums are fabulous but again be very careful with amounts because it doesn't take much to make the hair look greasy rather than shiny!
* One of my pet hates is the overuse of wax products... please, please remember that a little goes a long way! Rubbing a little between your palms vigorously will heat the wax and make it more pliable.
* When shaping your brows, heating the area first with a little boiled water(being careful not to burn your skin) on cotton wool will open the pores making hairs easier(and less painful!) to remove.
* Eyelash tinting can be a lifesaver for camping, travelling, parties, anytime you don't have time to apply mascara. It doesn't run either when you are swimming or boating.
* When choosing your lash colour there are many options available. Everything from natural light browns, to black, to funky rainbow colours. At the moment blue/black is very popular as the blue is not noticeable until under bright light or full sunlight, the blue bringing out any blue pigment in the eyes. I don't, however, suggest black alone unless your hair is naturally very dark brown or black as it can look harsh. Brown/black is a good option.
Any questions? Again, feel free to contact me.
Happy styling,
