NBA Draft Analysis by Jimmy Snaza

NBA Draft 2001 Mock Draft
1. Washington Wizards- Eddie Griffin 6-9 220 SF/PF Seton Hall Fr.
He had some off-court problems because of fights with teammates, but he is a wonderful player that reminds me of a Tracy McGrady type player. He is a five tool player that can dominate a game. Washington needs all positions, and he can play all positions.

2. Los Angeles Clippers-Eddy Curry 6-10 300 C Thornwood HS
He is a powerful player in the paint, but has a step ahead of Shaq and Wilt because he can shoot free throws and hit the occasional trey.

3. Atlanta Hawks-Shane Battier 6-8 215 SF Duke Sr.
He was this year's Wooden Award Winner and MVP of the Final Four. I wonder about his strength to play in the NBA. I think he may be the NBA's next Sam Bowie.

4. Chicago Bulls-Sagana Diop 7-0 310 C Oak Hill HS
A very athletic three hundred pounder. He is very fast coming from Senegal. His defensive skills are his best attribute. He holds opposing centers nearly scoreless. He guarded Tyson Chandler twice last season. Diop punished him in the first game. Chandler had a better second game, but rarely scored around Diop.

5. Golden State Warriors-Jason Richardson 6-6 220 Michigan State So.
Has a knack for rebounding and has a tremendous vertical leap. He can hit the mid-range jumper and has become good at hitting the trey. He still needs some more force inside the paint.

6. Vancouver Grizzlies-Tyson Chandler 7-1 220 SF/PF/Small Center Dominguez HS
Has great athleticism. Shot blocker and passing ability. Can shoot the ball. Will never be as strong as Shaq or Eddy Curry. Only weighs 220 or he would be a top 3 pick. He was embarrassed by Ousmane Cisse at the Nike Camp.

7. New Jersey Nets-Kwame Brown 6-11 240 PF Glynn Academy HS
He runs, passes, and handles the ball especially well for a 6-11 player. Game in the paint is decent. He is a very good shot blocker with no major weaknesses.

8. Cleveland Cavaliers-Pau Gasol 7-1 220 SF Barcelona (Spain) 1980
Cleveland likes their white players. This one would top them all. He can play all positions, but his true spot is SF. He doesn’t have great strength for a PF or C but he doesn’t have enough speed for a SF. Pau has no comparison in Europe, and will flourish in the NBA.

9. Detroit Pistons-Joe Johnson 6-9 225 SF Arkansas So.
Great ball handling skills, and this is good for a team with neither a proven small forward nor a proven point guard. Magic Johnson and Anfernee Hardaway are two players with his ball handling skills. Like most players in this draft he must get stronger.

10. Boston Celtics-Loren Woods 7-1 240 C Arizona Sr.
He is a great athletic player with superb shot blocking skills. His arms are long enough to be on the All Defensive Team. His problem is with his back injuries.
