'Our Iowa link to the Robinson Famiy Tree1'

------------------------------Page 1
---Dedicated to John Robinson of Virginia and Kentucky: to his daughter-in-law Isabella and his grand daughter Polly who shared his interest in the history of the Robinsons in America.
---Preface; While this record is not complete it has seemed best at this time to have it published. We hope at some future time somebody in the succeeding generations will do some further work on it. It is for the benefit of that unkown relative that this preface is written--- Inez Faber
---A number of Robinsons were buried at the Shiloh cemetery 4 1/2 miles southeast of Carlisle, Kentucky, near Moorefield, in direction of Sharpsburg. It is near the center of a triangle formed by the three towns. It is one mile off the road.
---The Robinsons at New Virginia, Iowa, migrated directly from Virginia to Iowa and are said to have kept complete records of the Robinsons since they landed in America.
---The Robinson family lived near the Washingtons in Virginia. George Washington's letters whech are kept in the library at Washington, D.C., aresaid to contain much information about the Robinsons of his time. One of out family legends is that a certain Long John Robinson and George Washington were the only ones in the community who could throw a rock across the Potomac at a certain point. In out histories we studied in school the rock became a dollar and Long John was not mentioned. However I believe he (if he was the John Robinson of Generation IV) was several years older than George Washington.
---In Wm.F.Cody's Story of the Wild West he insisted that Daniel Boone make his first trip to Kentucky in 1859 instead of 1869, according to the histories and that the settlement was make earlier than September 25, 1773 as we are now told. Daniel Boone was an uneducated man and by the time John Folsom interviewed him for his biography he was quite old, forgetful and childish. The Robinsons agree with many historians that the commonly accepted dates were wrong since William Robinson was born June 6, 1773 and that was after his parents left Kentucky and went back to Virginia. His older brother bob was the first white male child born in Kentucky. Daniel Boone's daughter was the first white child born in Kentucky. Several people have contended that John Robinson's wife was a cry baby because she cried to go back to Virginia. As we understand it was the only time her husband ever saw her shed tears. Her mother wasold and she knew she would never see her again unless she went back. It was a lonely life, with only six white families and 40 unmarried white men in the region. Each Indian attack brought death to seveal of the settlers. Probably many of her descendants have shed tears for less reason. The only record we have of the tears of her grandaughter Elizabeth was the time Lewis and Margaret Arnold, in 1846, decided they would go back to Indiana from Iowa. Elizabeth's mother, Isabella, was 64 years old, lived with the Arnolds and both the separation would be final if the Arnolds went back, so the Arnold family was induced to stay in Iowa.
---Isabella's brother inherited a title and went back to England before she came to Iowa. Her husband George Rogers Robinson was killed in the War of 1812. He was quick tempered and when the Indians killed a neighbor, he lost his temper and refused to run with the other neighbors. He stood up and shot the Indians until the neighbors saw him fall as they were running through a wheat field. His body was not recovered.
---We know the Robinsons originated in Scotland, went from there to Ireland and then to England. In 1608 with Rev. John Robinson as their leader they went to Holland and came from there to America in 1620. We are interested chiefly in the family in America. We have almost nothing of Jack Robinson, nephew of Preacher John Robinson. Apparently he was a young boy when he came to Plymouth. Some historical records give his name, others do not. He was killed by Indians. We think he had a son John who was the father of the first George Robinson of our American ancestors but it may be that George Robinson was his son, instead of his grandson. However we are numbering the generations I.Jack,II.John, and III. George. All the Robinsons mentioned here are descendants of the George's son John of generation IV.
---Isabella Beresford Robinson, the two Arnold families and the Kennedy Robinson family came to Iowa in 1846. We understand the James Robinson family had come the prebious year or earlier that year and settled south of Albia,IA. Kennedy and the Arnolds came on to Urbana township because they wanted to be near a stream and timber for building. The land they didn't like, near Albia, was much more valuable, in later years, than that they entered in Urbana township.
---In 1926 the D.A.R. at Albia moved the body of Revolutionary War Private Wm. Crockett of Capt. Philip Mathias 4th Battalion from Cumberland Co. Pennsylvania from the Collins Cemetery south of Albia to the Albia cemetery. He was a first cousin to Davy Crockett. He was born in 1757, died 1849. He came to Iowa in 1847. Wm. Robinson, son of E. Kennedy Robinson, had to sign the papers to consent to the moving of the body since he was the nearest living relative. Ira Robinson said they called him uncle Billy, but he didn't know what relation he was. It is very probable that uncle Billy Crockett's mother was either a Kennedy or a Robinson. Polly Crockett was also a cousin to Davy Crockett and probably was a sister to the Rev. veteran buried at Albia, Ia.
---David Crockett of historical fame married a Kennedy. One of Davy's political opponents was a neighbor, Maj. Arnold, but do not know whether he was related to those in this record.
---Emily Robinson was the second wife of Jas. Stone the son of John and Elizabeth Stone. He was born born at Whitley in the parish Hetttington, Yorkshire, England, 1801. His first wife, a Berchem or Burchase, had two sons, John of Decatur Co., and Will who was killed in a well cave-in on the E. Kennedy Robinson farm in Monroe Co., IA
---Beginning with John Robinson of the fourth generation in America.
---IV. John Robinson married his forst cousin-also named Robinson- and went to Kentucky with Daniel Boone. Their son Bob was the first white male child born in Kentucky. His wife became homesick and they moved back to Virginia where George R. and William were born.
