Marine Lance Corporal Jourdan Lin Grez of Harrisonburg, Virginia was killed in action on May 11, 2005, in Karabilah, Iraq while supporting Operation Matador. LCpl Grez was one of six Marines who were killed when their amphibious assault vehicle struck an explosive device while conducting combat operations against enemy forces. The other five Marines killed were LCpl Wesley G. Davids, 20, of Dublin, Ohio, SSgt Kendall H. Ivy II, 28, of Crawford, Ohio, Pfc Christopher R. Dixon, 18, of Columbus, Ohio, LCpl Nicholas B. Erdy, 21, of Williamsburg, Ohio and LCpl Jonathan W. Grant, 23, of Santa Fe, N.M.
Grez was assigned to Marine Forces Reserve's 4th Combat Engineer Battalion, 4th Marine Division, Roanoke, Va.
For Operation Iraqi Freedom, these Marines' units were attached to Regimental Combat Team 2, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward).
Jourdan grew up in Little Silver, New Jersey and Ocean Point, Maine, before moving to Richmond, Virginia, where he graduated from James River High School. Prior to deploying to Iraq, LCpl Grez was a student at James Madison University, Harrisonburg, Virginia, where he was majoring in Finance. Jourdan leaves behind a two-year-old son, Colin, and a heartbroken family...mother, Andrea; father, Armand; brother, Armand III; brother, Aric; grandmother, Nan; girlfriend, Lael; and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins.
